beginner -> intermediate -> advanced -> expert

建议楼主google一下how to choose skis,所谓的beginner和expert不单单在板子的材

You'll know the difference in skis as you gain more experience and discover
what kind of skiing you like to do. A safe place to start is look at the
category of skis known as 'all-mountain' skis.
For most beginner to advanced intermediates:
As a general rule, ski length should be about to your chin.
Ski width I would go with an all-mountain set up width of about 80mm(East
Coast), or 90mm(West Coast). This set up should last you quite a few years
- by then your skis will more than likely be pretty beat up, or you would
have discovered more about your style and what kind of terrain you enjoy,
and have some idea what kind of skis you need.
There are other factors like cambers, rockers, etc - don't worry about them
on your first pair - save the money on your boots instead :)
Boots is a bit more important than skis. Since like most of us, you are not
racing - the best thing to do is to get a pair that is the most comfortable
. For that you MUST try them out in person. There is a thing called flex
index - as a general rule, the higher that number, the stiffer the boot, the
better it is to transfer power to your skis, and the less comfortable it is.
Same thing apply to skis as to boots - for your first pair, your foremost
concern is comfort. Put both boots on (do not just put on 1), walk around,
stand around for a while (not 30 seconds - maybe walk around the store for a
while...) Feel how free your heel is (you should not be able to move your
heels very much), test to see if any part of your feet has circulation cut
off - if the boot isn't comfortable for 10 minutes - imagine standing in
them for the WHOLE DAY while in freezing temperature!

Regarding boot fitting - unless the price differential is very great,
normally I would purchase from the store anyway, for several reasons:
1) Boot fitting - if you go to a ski shop, boot fitting isn't just measure
the dimension of your feet and let you put on a pair and walk around. Boot
fitting is also about customization - if for example, you really like a
particular set of boots but are not happy with how the liners feel or fit,
an experienced boot fitter can do a lot to alleviate pressure points and gap
wiggle rooms by patching up the boot liner. All that service is free, and
at least in my case, I can come back to the store at any time to make
adjustments.
2) Price. While most stores can't match *truly* bottom 80% sale outlet
price, for most boots at least my local store price is fairly competitive -
within $50 or so. They know that people shop around, and while they will
charge a premium for the value-added service, it shouldn't be something
outrageous.
3) Karma... lol OK this is a weird one - I like to build a good
relationship with the locally-owned stores because 1) they treat you nice
and would often give you preferential treatment on some goodies. Plus - it'
s nice to support your local small business. Like I said, karma. hehe
Of course if the price difference is simply huge, then I would buy online
and take it to the store to have it properly fitted.

Right, I don't mean to go into for example a Sports Authority and expect the
16yr old part-time high school student worker to provide good custom
service. I'm in Ohio and the state is literally one giant corn field. But
even here there are a few local ski/board shops (in summer they sell runner'
s gear + patio furniture LOL).
Honestly, you can probably patch up your own boots too - stuff in more
insulation, shave off part of the liner if you feel a pressure point, etc.
If you are lazy like me, might as well have someone else do it and if they
screw up, I got someone to blame besides myself... haha

unless you buy your boots from a specialty store, you are better off to get
a pair off the internet (dirty cheap) and pay another 100 to the boots
fitter. The catch is that most of the good boots fitters are with the
specialty shops, and most of the time they refuse to do a good job when you
bring outside boots :D
as yoss said, Karma is some serious business you shouldn't mess with, you
will get more than just the bucks

Or go to a ski shop nearby the resort you often ski.

if you don't have to wear arch support in daily life, you don't have to have
it.
Nonetheless, it is going to make your feet feel so much better. If you get
this, you might as well get your boots custom fitted, another 100-200 bucks
