consider this when they decide who to lay off. |

the companies I worked, they almost all require you to store your work in
the public area. And you have to present your program/log along with your
result for validation purpose.

macros.
I was asked to share most my macros/programs and I did. However, I didnt'
share one of my macros which can solve all the problems at once. That macro
has 10 pages and includes over 20 sub-macros. It took me almost 1 month to
create it and it reduced my work by 80%.
Why would I share it with co-workers so they can do things as fast as I?
Come on, don't be so stupid. |

completely unacceptable.
In my company, sharing codes are not required, but it is a common practice.
Usually, when an analyst completes an analysis, (s)he will provide the resul
t as well as the whole set of codes to both coworkers and requetors. In thi
s way, coworkers are able to do similar things, and also, requestors can mod
ify the codes and do it on their own in the future.

it is just a matter of time. providing codes to them, you got free feedback
and maybe error checking, as well as goodwill and favor from them later. you
get nothing back by not doing so.

Roughly 50% of things I have learning at work are from collaboration and fee
dbacks from others. Also, the company often hold workshops or talks where pe
ople share their valuable experience with each other. I learned a lot of R s
tuff from a few very experience R collaborators in the company. Some key tri
cks may take me years to know without these knowledge sharing.

If you work in a CRO or Pharma (maybe most private companies), the code,
even though written by you, does not belong to you. It belongs to the
company. Most of them will have a statement in fine printing stating if you
leave, you are not even allowed to bring it with you.
Each code has to be validated as well.
On the other hand, you can have you own developed tools to generate code (
not for generate result) or do quick/dirty checks not for productio

I share my code before.
I hesitate this time because the co-worker I am going to share with is not
very nice to me. He is trying to proof to my boss that it is not nesserary
to have so many data analyst and he can do everything.
I will share part of the code. |

要是有些老美水平太差，嘴又太能吹了。俺稍微SHARE几个MACRO，这帮人根本没看懂就
拿去用了，不劳而获啊！对同事要NICE，不过关键技术最好还是留一手。
