credit risk management. 当时招我进去，是想让我做model的，那个team 名字也好听
scoring team.
可是几个月过去了，没有任何有做model的project的迹象，整个部门用的都是从外方买
来的model, 用的很好，我只是做做monitor model performance. 有空就帮助strategy
team, 做做strategy, 干着出劳力而没有ownership， credit 的活.
最让人气愤的是，帮其他老板干活，他们还不买账，做完的东西看都不看，每次我要费
好大劲才找到他们，让他们看一看给个答复， 要不要implement。 干活没人摧，自己
要主动去推销，要 follow up, 否则干的东西就会打水漂。
最近自己的老板， 对她的手下开始不满意，开会时提到，我们为什么不积极主动
present our work. 我觉得你做老板的应该帮助我们拿我们的work 去有关meeting 做
宣传，自己没有做到 反而责怪我们没有积极，没有你老板的支持 |

implement牵涉到的人太多，应该是个从上到下的过程，你现在从下往上搞，根本就没

多MANAGER 的 APPROVE， 问题是REQUEST 的 MANAGER 自己不积极帮我FOLLOW UP 他的
东西， 我再积极也力不从心。

的事，不想放弃。要知道，做STRATEGY的人是不会做MODEL的，但会做MODEL的都会做
STRATEGY，一学就会。
现在我们整个大TEAM中，STRATEGY TEAM 是有实权的， SCORING TEAM 是很被动 WEAK
的， 因为我们没有自己开发的MODEL。

either--if the new model doesn't work or doesn't perform as well as the old
model (which is quite likely to happen--do you think you are that much
better than other modeling people? Everyone learns the same books--like John
Hull's, unless you are a genius and you can bring up something that work so
well), then your whole group's reputation and security of job may be in

IMPACT
not about models but about making money. Traditional bankers are never
mathematicians. There used to be those fancy financial engineering models,
most of them are designed for the credit markets and the bundled credit
products like CDOs. Now these products lead to the huge crisis ongoing now,
and the modellers lose a lot of reputation--because they are mathematicians
not businessmen. At least in the trading company I worked for(a very big one
), modellers are not highly regarded at all.

The reason my manager hired me because I have modeling background and I
thought that I would build models in my new job. I do not mind developing
strategy or doing something else but I still do not get the chance to do
what I really want to do.
I do not expect to build a new model to replace the existing model which
works pretty well. But I would like to build some small models for a certain
segment or portofolio so that I could set my foot solidly in the whole team.

since you are monitoring the performance of current model, you know where it
is strong and where it is weak. Take that niche segment as your start point
, build your own model quitely and check if it outperforms the vendor's
product. If it works, you can show that to your boss and ask your boss to
market it. Otherwise, revise your model
Chance won't come to you, rather you pursue after it
certain
team.

我只是想做我喜欢做的事情，如果一时半会儿，做不了，就等待机会，或是到其他地方
去。

发帖数: 11017 | 20 很欣赏LZ的积极向上。但是大部分工作是在磨洋工的，这个不是某个个人可以改变的。实业界不像学校里，有的是钱，养的起闲人--当然年底的红包也不会太好看。如果LZ不愿混日子，就积极寻找能够充分发挥能量的工作职位，同时也要搞好和现任老板的关系。建议你去下职场版，之前有篇帖子写的极为精辟。
还有就是，你要仔细分析下你老板前后矛盾的原因。不要一根筋地认定她要你展示工作成果就是要在会议上给你10分钟，你能分析那么复杂的统计模型，这个你多加观察、多加思索应该不难知道答案。我们许多新同志的technical skill很过硬，但是政治嗅觉和大局观比较逊色一点，需要给点心机培养啊。 |

This forum used to be just SAS exam and change majors. We really need the
post like this to discuss how the statistics people work in the real world.
This post rises a common problem. In many places statistics/modeling is
supporting work. There are not enough money and time to provide us to apply
fussy technical skills. For LZ, you'd better stand in your manager's shoes
to think, what your team's role in the bank is. |
