spelling contest, they were given list A and B to remember. However,
they were also told during the contest, words might come from List A,
List B, and List C.
List C= (List A + List B+ X). Most words were not daily used words
for the students, the list C as a whole were arranged by word
difficulty levels.
Process: during the contest, each student was tested by a word that
was randomly picked from List C on the same word difficulty level.
However, the source of the words were not controlled (whether the
words were from Lists AB or X). If the student failed to spell the
word correctly, the student was eliminated from the contest.
In my opinion the process is flawed. We cannot only test the students
based only on the word level of difficulty according to C for each
round. Sources of the words need to be controlled too( AB or X),.
Since the students were asked to study Lists A and B, the chances for
them to correctly spell a word from lists AB are bigger than that
from X. It is unfair for the students who came across a word from X
first and the most. For the same round, besides word difficulty
level, all students should get the words from the same source.
