political regimes have tremendous pressure and incentives to keep the prices
down, well, as long as they can. On the top of that agriculture products
are hard to store and preserve, so you can't really hoard them. Producers
have to sell the agriculture products before it perishes and worth nothing.
It's a very interesting business as both demand and supply curves are very
inelastic.
Not the case with gold/silver. Average Joes won't feel much pain regardless
what gold/silver prices are as long as prices of commodities stay low. They
own little precious metals anyway. Of course prices of commodities are
somewhat correlated with prices of gold/silver but they are not entirely the
same thing. Keep in mind, gold/silver are not commodities but money.
