I understand that the picture is meant to show a happy Japanese face.
Actually this is a picture from 1930~1940's WWII Japanese Propaganda of the
"happy and peaceful" life of CHINESE people under the occupying of Imperial
Japanese Army and the ruling of the puppet government Japanese was
supporting. It is basically showing Chinese people were having a happy life
under the Japanese ruling. Now you should understand how this picture is
disturbing to many people, especially Chinese or other East Asian people.
People with related knowledge can easily identify the Chinese style of the
clothing and the building in the background which is one of the city gates
of Beijing. If you look at the original picture, you should see the flag of
the puppet government.
I have been enjoying the contents of BI as well as the dynamic pictures the
editors/authors select. However this picture cannot be tolerated. I don't
believe BI has this intention to do it. Please correct the mistake and do
whatever it is necessary before the incident gets worse. |
