Tesla has provided another update to last week's fatal crash. As it turns
out, Tesla said the driver had Autopilot on with the adaptive cruise control
follow-distance set to minimum. However, it seems the driver ignored the
vehicle's warnings to take back control.
"The driver had received several visual and one audible hands-on warning
earlier in the drive and the driver’s hands were not detected on the wheel
for six seconds prior to the collision," Tesla wrote in a blog post. "The
driver had about five seconds and 150 meters of unobstructed view of the
concrete divider with the crushed crash attenuator, but the vehicle logs
show that no action was taken."
The promise of Tesla’s Autopilot system is to reduce car accidents. In the
company’s blog post, Tesla notes Autopilot reduces crash rates by 40
percent, according to an independent review by the U.S. government. Of
course, that does not mean the technology is perfect in preventing all
accidents.
As Tesla previously noted, the crash was so severe because the middle
divider on the highway had been damaged in an earlier accident. Tesla also
cautioned that Autopilot does not prevent all accidents, but it does make
them less likely to occur. |

他们的Autopilot出事前一周左右有个大升级，估计有bug没测试好，而且为什么
Emergency Braking没启动？这个比方向盘螺栓危险多了，也应该recall，

with Autopilot engaged roughly 85,000 times since Autopilot was first rolled
out in 2015 and roughly 20,000 times since just the beginning of the year,
and there has never been an accident that we know of. There are over 200
successful Autopilot trips per day on this exact stretch of road.

次撞车的责任就是tesla的自动驾驶。其他都是次要的。

发帖数: 261 | 18 I think the lane splits into 2 lanes, and as it diverges a separate space
was created b/w the two lanes, that middle separate space leads to the
divider/medium. However from the autopilot standpoint it mistakens that
separate space as another valid lane, since it is bounded by two white lines
(right white line from the left lane, left white line from the right lane).
Why it didn't detect the medium and didn't even attempt to slow down at
all is a separate issue which I have no answer for.
The divider was collapsable usually. But unfortunately a drunk driver had
previously crashed at the same spot few days earlier and destroyed the
collapsable section. As a result the Tesla crashed straight into the solid
hard medium and took the blunt of the impact.
Bottomline is autopilot is far from perfect and to make matter worse, it
gives ppl a false sense of security. |
