谁头上都行吗? | J*****i 发帖数: 2622 | 2 MFS is generally less preferrable because of narrow brackets, less/no credit
deduction, and the rule that both spouses have to take either standard or
itemized deduction.
the only time it might work is when one spouse has a lot of deduction (
medical, 2% AGI deduction etc.) | m********n 发帖数: 782 | 3 是,因为我们一起file会hit AMT,所以觉得不如让一个人去AMT,另一个人可以有效的
itemize
这样的话可以seperate file吗?
引一个论坛里的留言,评论MFS是否一定比MFJ差
Is this conventional wisdom changing in recent years by the increasing
applicability of AMT? E.g., assume a husband and wife with no kids and make
approx 325k and 150k respectively with approx 55k of deductions. Many
credits and deductions unavailable or phased out. Comparing MFJ return on
TurboTax with mock MFS returns (using TurboTax's What-If workheet), MFJ
appears to have a higher aggregate (after AMT) tax burden than MFS by
approximately $900. Runs against conventional wisdom I've read here and
elsewhere; does this sound plausible?; have you seen this or heard of others
with similar experience?

| J*****i 发帖数: 2622 | 4 Intereting. Run both scenarios and see which is more beneficial. I'm just a
little concerned about moving income (assuming join acct.) to one and
deduction to another. Generally joint income and deductions are split half
and half on MFS unless you can justify that it belong to one specifically. |
