allowed amt". e.g. company provides and pays for a $50k life ins for you at
work. you don't owe tax on it. if the amt is $90k, then imputed income
will apply on $40k, because it's over the $50k limit.
IRS offers a table that calculates the excess value--such amount is reported
on your W-2. because company already paid for it, this income is to be
backed out.
overall effect on your income is minimal--since the amt is usually small.

The important thing is the "overall effect on your income is minimal--since
