POSITION: Senior Research Scientist
REPORTING TO: R&D Manager
POSITION OVERVIEW
· Company is embarking on a growth phase with a focus on expanding
technology which greats an excellent opportunity for someone to join our
team.
· Will be savvy and comfortable with evaluating opportunities to
improve processes and perform process development work which includes
bringing old chemistry up-to-date.
· Some of the challenges include process improvement, process/
product development, plant support and ideation for projects that add value
for the business.
· Within the first 3-6 months they will be expected to learn the
key business drivers for Company, lead at least one major project. Within
the first year the successful candidate will be handling multiple projects
and contributing ideas to advance the project pipeline.
· Will interact regularly with key business and production
stakeholders in order to identify and solve problems.
· Will mentor junior scientist and research technicians when they
assist with project work.
EDUCATION
· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or
Materials Science
· 7+ years of experience in scientific research which includes
experience in an industrial or research lab
· Master’s or Doctorate is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Advanced understanding of polymer based systems, processing,
products and additives
· Polymer applications in the areas of fuel additives, lubricant
formulations, adhesives and sealants, coatings, radiation cured polymeric
systems, tire/rubber, plasticizers and detergents
· Petrochemical knowledge in process improvements in production of
specialty chemicals
· Organic chemistry knowledge with a good understanding of
mechanisms especially in polymerization
· Experience in homogeneous catalytic processes and/or solution
polymerization
· Chemical engineering skills associated with hands-on experience
with lab reactor design and good handle on basic chemical engineering
principles and a heavy appreciation for chemistry
· Catalyst testing experience
· Problem solving skills
· Fundamentals of chemical and/or refinery processes
· Knowledge of various laboratory pilot plants and instrumentation
· Intellectual Property Development a plus
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Senior Research Scientist will have experience with lab scale
reactor systems (glass and/or metal, pressure systems), demonstrated
ability
to work with vague problems and create structure in a way that the problem
can be investigated, solved and well understood along with a demonstrated
proactive approach to identifying and creating value. Key Responsibilities
include:
· Awareness and participation in intellectual property development
· Increasing frequency of leading projects
· Advises and directs lab unit design, construction and operation
· Interacts with business and production to identify opportunities
and solve issues
· Increasing independence in experimental planning
· Independent leadership of projects, large and small
· Provides instruction to research technicians to assist with
project work
· Conducts modeling work and statistical studies
· Keeps abreast of developments in their field by reading current
literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional
conferences
· Conducts applied research and publishes findings in technical
reports
· Participates in laboratory safety activities and organization
· Leading lab safety reviews
· Provides proper execution and compliance with safety processes
· Operates laboratory equipment and instrumentation to complete
experimental protocols
· Assists in researching, conducting experiments, gathering data
and developing preliminary findings, and preparing written reports for
