constantly looking for worse players (less skilled, on tilt, rich/stupid, ..

uncontrolable luck factor.

This is obligatory I guess 8-) :

yeah, that's why unless there're more than 2 fish at your table you believe
you can suck out, you better move to another (at least ppl won't know your
style for a while). sitting at the same table for long hours would just make
the game more about luck.

well, as long as you play well, it's really not a matter of luck IMO.

If players at the table are of same level, it is a matter of luck.
And that is what he means.

playing well is a subjective matter as i believe:
1) with about even skill-level at the table, you don't really have an edge
during long hours or long term, you win one hand here, make another mistake
there, and your opponents do the same too. that's why many times you'll find
no obvious winners at a table, chips just move around;
2) to win big, most times i feel luck is quite related in many marginal
situations. in many cases, you two (or more players) are all making the "
right" decisions base

tournament is another thing, when the stack is very small, it's a
matter of random shooting. When the stack is deep, there are really
a lot of skills involved.

Whether this is my personal feeling, or there are other to think same?
Players at final table are less skillful than many good players I met in
online pokerroom.

basically, for small stacks, the decisions are very simple, push or fold,
that's where the randomness comes from. For deep stacks, it's a sure thing
that bad players would be butchered not even in a long run. that's why most
on line card rooms limit the buyin for ring games, when the stack is 100 bb,
there are still a lot of random luck involved. If the stack is 200 bb or
more
, bad players don't have any chance against good ones.

yeah, i meant that.
i had this thought just because i feel ppl take it as a big self challenge
to become a "better" player, while it's a good thing, sometimes it goes too
far and got too much ego sense involved ("i'm a better player than you", "i
have to beat you", or "you're just lucky"....). there're millions of ppl
playing poker now everyday and everywhere, so for most of us, we're just the
average (better than beginners, never becoming a pro or close).
given that, what do we play poker for?

well, might be true, same happens in B&M casinos too, a lot of big names
showed up and failed to the final table. just like recent borgata WPT winter
open. if somebody keeps track of how each of those big pros' records every
year, i'm really interested to know.
one comment shocked me before, "many pros do go broke as you might not
know..."

yeah, a fair statment should be like "poker is a game of luck and skill"...
however, when the skill diff. gets smaller, luck factor gets bigger.

I have had similar observations. I figure it probably has to do with
a) people tend to make sub-optimal decisions under a lot of pressure and
after having had to repeatedly make similar decisions for the past 3-4 days.
b) other people at the final table presumably know about all the tricks, and
maybe even know about your unique tricks if you are famous enough. So
anyone playing strictly by the book can probably make final 4, but you have
to really break out of your usual pattern to come out as
