I've been thinking about this for a bit.
Are any of you lawyers? ... Nevermind, if you were you couldn't give legal
advice here.
OK... have any of you consulted with lawyers, to see if what you're doing
here is actually legal?
It's just that you're participating in an international cyber attack, led by
Fang Zhouzi, by a high-profile blogger from China, who is associated with
the Chinese Communist Party.
So far, you've managed to knock "Bend Not Break" off the New York Times
Bestseller list. That had to cost the publisher a lot, right? The damages
must be up in the felony category, and since it's national and international
law you're dealing with (you know, Amazon sells around the world), that
involves the FBI, Interpol, and who else?
Then, I was thinking about the harassment. Some of you must have gone
looking for private information on Ping Fu, her family, her friends, or her
businesses. These things always end with someone getting carried away, and
thinking they can send a threatening message, or hack someone's web site, or
do a denial of service attack. If you didn't do it, I suppose it's OK,
except for the RICO law.
So what I'm wondering is if you've thought all this out. Do you have a wife
or husband? Children? People who'll need to be supported if you end up in
prison?
Oh, shit... I forgot... the White House! Some of you must have contacted the
White House to try and mess with Ping's relationship with the President.
That brings in the Secret Service. Since there's the international tie in,
with Fang Zhouzi, that gets even more complicated.
Problem is that, even if Ping Fu did nothing, there are about 9 other
potential complainants. One of you must have messed with 3D Systems. But
that's OK... until the purchase of Geomagic closes, they'll hold off on
pressing charges.
I really hope some of you checked with your lawyers.
Because, if the FBI comes looking for you at your work, it's going to be
hard to explain to your boss.
Unless, of course, you live in China. I don't know if China extradites to
the US.
