w***n 发帖数: 9040 | 1 Armstrong's Kona CampaignLance Armstrong's Hawaiian Ironman bid gained
further momentum this weekend as he had a break through win at the Ironman
70.3 Florida. Not only did he win but he crushed the field by more than 10
minutes.
At the age of 15, Lance Armstrong graced the cover of Triathlon magazine
touted as one of the sports future prodigies. After 25 years of life,
getting cancer, being a world champion and winning the worlds hardest and
most prestigious bike race 7 times Lance is back on the cover of Triathlon
magazines and once again having a huge impact in what is no longer a niche
sport.
Read a brief recap of Lance's triathlon return below and watch this space
for updates as he continues towards his goal of the Ironman World
Championships this October.
Ironman 70.3 Panama - This was Lance's first attempt at a triathlon since
way back in the day, before the Tour de France and before the cancer, when
he used to race [competetively] against the likes of Dave Scott and Mark
Allen (both 6 time winners in Kona). He was only 33 seconds slower than the
best swimmers and rode one of the quicker times on the bike although
probably riding quite conservativley knowing he had to run. He managed to
back that up with a 1:17 half marathon and 2nd place overall. Only Bevan
Docherty (who races in the blisteringly fast ITU format) was able to catch
him.
Ironman 70.3 Texas - Lance lined up for his second shot at a half ironman
event at the Texas 70.3 against a stacked field. Lance was disappointed with
his performance in front of his home town crowd. He once again swam with
the front pack but he only managed to get 41 seconds ahead on the bike which
was not nearly enough as he faded to 7th place. Lance seemingly struggled
with the 4th discipline of long distance triathlon, nutrition. Regardless,
two starts and two top-ten finishes is hardly something you turn your nose
up at.
Ironman 70.3 St Croix - Lance collected another 70.3 podium finish on this
notoriously tough course but once again his weakness was on the run. The
seven-time Tour de France winner not only caught the leaders on the bike,
but grabbed the race lead around mile 45 of the 56-mile bike ride. He left
T2 with a 1:45 advantage but by the 9.5-mile mark he had been caught by two
guys again seeming to fade possibly due to getting his nutrition wrong or
perhaps he just cant run the times needed to win...
Ironman 70.3 Florida - Lance finally stamped his authority on the half
ironman circuit with a commanding breakthrough victory at Florida 70.3. The
cycling champion finished more than 11 minutes ahead of the runner-up. He
was fifth place after the 1.2-mile swim and took the lead about 20 miles
into the 56-mile ride. He stayed in front throughout the run to finish in a
time of 3 hours, 45 minutes and 38 seconds, lightning fast by anyones
standards. Not only did he win and post the fastest bike time (to be
expected) he also posted the fastest run time of 1:15, out-running guys who
are considered much better runners on paper.
Lance appears to have finally cracked the half ironman code, he is winning
professional triathlons again as he was at the age of 18 and the rest of the
professionals are most likely becoming increasingly nervous about what
Lance will do at Kona should he qualify.
Now it is on to Ironman France for Lance... Keep watching this space for
more updates!! |
