new world and I would like to explore a lot of new things, especially those
things that were forbidden in China. One thing specific is religion. I went
to Christian bible studies and I also would like to learn more about what is
Falun Dafa: For those who don't know Falun Dafa, it is a branch of Buddism,
but it was declared as a cult in China. I knew one of my college-mate was a
Falun Dafa believer, so I started to communicate with her about how she
started to believe Falundafa. The communication gradually became a debate,
and the debate then evolved into arguments, the arguments then became heated
and were filled with words like "ridiculous", "stupid", etc. As expected,
the conversation had an unhappy ending. After that debate, I went to a
Chinese restaurant for lunch. I ordered my meal. Coming along with the meal,
I found a fortune cookie. I opened the fortune cookie, and I was in shock:
Because the fortune cookie said:
"Word has power, be careful when you use it".
I usually don't believe there is any fortune in the fortune cookie, but on
that day, I found a fortune, because I realized it is a truth: Word has
power!
Word indeed has power! By my unwise usage of the words, I have ruined a
conversation that could have been edifying, and I have brought to an end the
friendship between me and my college-mate who I lost contact for a long
time.
In the movie of Harry potter, the wizards and witches cast spells by
speaking magic words. By saying the spell, some thing such as "Expelliarmus"
, you can disarm your opponent. While these spells only exist in legendary,
there exist some real words in reality that have magic power! With those
words, we can build a world or we can destroy a world. I just showed you my
catastrophic experience of some of these powerful words that brought to
destruction to the friendship between me and my college-mate. And I later
noticed that there are so many other words that have the magic to create a
new world. These words are so commonplace that we spoke them daily but we
neglect their power. You might already know what I am talking about. The
first one worth mentioning is the word "Thanks"! For those of "muggle blood"
, they spoke this word heartlessly or mindlessly, and they do not feel its
magic. But if you say it with an sincere heart, you will feel its power and
see how it ignite the passion of the one who you speak to. And there is
another magic phrase: "what do you think?" which I learned recently from a
former CEO. No matter what you are trying to say, a suggestion, or a comment
, or an order, no matter it is your boss, your colleague or your subordinate
. By ending your message by the magic phrase "what do you think" whenever
possible, you will build a much more beautiful world around you and your
friends. So think about it, and let's build a better world together! what do
you think?
Word indeed has power! I recalled when I came to the states by flight for
the first time. I was so worried and felt so uncertain about the future:
will I be good enough to survive in the new world? When I aimlessly browsed
through the sky-mall magazine, I was attracted to the commercial of a framed
print. Beneath the picture of a furious thunderstorm which is beautifully
illuminated by several lightening strokes, the message read:
"Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but by how we react to
what happens; not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to
life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts,
events and outcomes. It is a catalyst...a spark that creates extraordinary
results. "
Meditating on it, my uncertainty faded away. I felt the future is in my hand
, and I am ready to respond to it with an positive attitude. I felt the
power of the words.
Indeed, word has power! A spiritual power that science can not yet measure,
but its existance is undeniable. Aware of them or not, we are living our
life by feeding on the words in the media we read everyday: Murder, hatred,
sex, sinister plots, or love, peace, trust among people? Believe it or not,
the power of these words you fed on will become a part of you and gradually
define who you are. Are you prepare for that? Aware of them or not, we are
producing words everyday that are influencing people's life around us,
positively or negatively. Encouragement or discouragement? accepting or
rejecting? blaming or forgiving? Believe it or not, we are going to live in
the world we created by our own words. Are you prepared for that?
In Bible, God create the world by Word, And the Word become a man who bring
salvation, forgiveness and peace to the world. Word has power! I believe in
