Workforce, A Fact The Detroit Free Press Actually Admits This Time
The silver lining to Michigan's losing even more jobs is that the Detroit
Free Press is finally admitting the reality of the situation - the
unemployment rate in Michigan is dropping because workers have either timed
out from unemployment benefits and have given up looking for work, or have
left the state entirely. In prior months, this was either hidden or not
reported. From the freep yesterday: State's jobless numbers drop, but
employment isn't rising
The predictable result of liberal policies
Michigan’s unemployment rate fell sharply from November’s 12.4% to 11.
7% in December, but the decrease reflected people leaving the workforce
rather than a big increase in jobs.
...“The drop in the state’s December jobless rate primarily reflected
a reduction in the number of unemployed individuals seeking jobs. Employment
levels in Michigan have been flat since the summer,” said Rick Waclawek,
director of the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth’s Bureau of
Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives.
The government accounts for jobs the way that Enron accounted for debt. When
an unemployed person runs out of unemployment benefits, they are no longer
counted as unemployed even though they really are unemployed. When an
unemployed person moves out of state, they are no longer considered
unemployed either.
Hopefully things will be looking up for Michigan now that the disastrous
reign of Granholm has come to an end. |
