b**********s 发帖数: 9531 | 1 Last week, university police at UC Davis pepper sprayed a line of quiet,
seated protesters who were blocking a path.
The video of the spraying immediately went viral, and many people who
watched it were appalled by what they viewed as police brutality. You can
watch the full video here.
Other people, meanwhile, were appalled that people were upset, arguing that,
like other "Occupy" protesters, the student protesters were "hippies" who
want something for nothing.
In the wake of the video, UC Davis chancellor Linda Katehi has faced calls
for her resignation. In a follow-up video that was also widely circulated,
Katehi walks to her car through hundreds of protesters whose collective
silence was more powerful than slogans and chanting would have been.
Did the police over-react? Should Katehi resign? Was the US Davis pepper-
spraying a watershed incident that will galvanize the Occupy movement?

The District Attorney is investigating criminal charges against the police
officers and police chief who are all suspended ("on leave"). The 9th
Circuit Court of Appeals which covers California in similar cases has ruled
that such force was excessive and unreasonable, so the expectation is that
criminal charges will be filed and that civil lawsuits against these 3 and
the university will follow. Still open is if or how long the Chancellor will
last in her position. | y****t 发帖数: 10233 | 3 this is exactly why california turns into a cesspool.
scumbags got the free protection, while people enforcing the law got jailed.
this gonna be backfired sooner or later.
