Politico Corrects Misattributed Tina Fey Quote, Continues to “FAIL”
Posted on April 03 2012 - 2:10 AM - Posted by: Stacy Drake
Just yesterday, Politico was called out by Big Journalism Editor, Dana
Loesch, for forgetting their own rules in regard to the use of “violent”
metaphors. Today, Politico writers Dylan Byers and Mackenzie Weinger,
doubled down on the idiocy by mixing fiction with reality and taking petty,
partisan shots at Governor Palin.
First, they replay Matt Lauer’s ‘Team Couric‘ remark to Governor Palin,
when she called in to the Today Show on Monday:
Stoking the coals, Today host Matt Lauer asked Palin Monday when she
phoned into the show if she was “reading some newspapers” to prepare for
her appearance, a reference to the 2008 Couric interview when Palin was
unable to name a single newspaper or magazine she read to stay informed
about current events.
The left continues to frame the Governor’s silence in response to Couric’s
insulting line of questioning as “not being prepared.” No, it’s called,
not going off. If people honestly think that Governor Palin doesn’t read
the news, how do you explain every op-ed, policy statement, and oh yeah,
best-selling books that she’s written?
Then, the Politico writers had to change part of the original article after
it had been published. Joel Pollak caught what they initially reported and
posted it on Big Journalism:
The 2008 [Couric] interview also saw Palin famously stumped on
matters of foreign policy (“I can see Russia from my house”), Supreme
Court history (other than Roe v. Wade, she couldn’t cite a significant
opinion), and global warming (“I’m not going to solely blame all of man’s
activities on changes in climate.”)
In fact, the line about Russia was spoken by Tina Fey on Saturday Night
Live.
At the very end of the Politico article, it states:
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly attributed a
quote about Russia to Sarah Palin that had been said by Tina Fey.
How embarrassing for them. They want readers to believe anything they just
wrote on this topic, yet they couldn’t differentiate Governor Palin from
Tina Fey.
After the correction was made, the Politico article now states:
The 2008 interview also saw Palin famously stumped on matters of foreign
policy (“[O]ur next-door neighbors [Russia] are foreign countries, there
in the state that I am the executive of…”), Supreme Court history (other
than Roe v. Wade, she couldn’t cite a significant opinion), and global
warming (“I’m not going to solely blame all of man’s activities on
changes in climate.”)
They should’ve gone further with their correction because stating that
Russia is Alaska’s neighbor, and that Governor Palin was the executive of
that state isn’t getting “stumped,” it’s reality. Also, this partial
answer (Politico chops off most of her statement) was given to Charlie
Gibson, not Katie Couric. It’s the wrong interview and it lacks context.
Politico, you still “FAIL.”
Another thing, Arthur “A.B.” Culvahouse put to rest the notion that
Governor Palin was unaware of Supreme Court decisions outside of Roe v. Wade
, many moons ago:
She clearly did … My law firm represents Exxon in the Valdez matters,”
he noted. “Until she became governor, Gov. Palin was a plaintiff in that
case…
Then the writers at Politico attack Governor Palin for stating that she
doesn’t believe that the climate going through “change” is a direct
result of human activity alone. These narcissistic left-wing ideologues
think that anyone who believes in cyclical climate change, i.e. nature, as
opposed to their Earth Hour talking points, is being “stumped.” No, it’s
having a different opinion than thou, one that is shared by many scientists
throughout the country, yet entirely ignored in the halls of the LSM.
Politico has a proven history of bias and sloppiness, so there certainly isn
’t thing shocking about this article. When it was announced over the
weekend that Governor Palin would co-host the Today Show, her supporters
knew to expect it. After all, the left hasn’t changed a bit since 2008.
