a. unionize and collective bargain with the government.
b. rights (of self and direct family member) to vote in the elections at the
corresponding level. i.e. unionized Fed government workers forfeit the
rights to vote for president or congress, state level workers forfeit the
rights to vote for governor and state legislature, unionized teachers can
not vote in the school board election, etc etc.
They either collectively bargain with a boss other people elected, or elect
a boss who have full discretion who and how to compensate. Having both makes
private sector workers 2nd class citizens.
