Gifted
Good morning everyone! I appreciate all of the discussion and am sorry for
not being able to jump in and engage throughout. The truth is that
campaigning requires a lot of face-to-face interactions. I knock on voters'
doors for several hours a day and talk to them personally about their issues
. I also have individual meetings with people helping the campaign and
attend community events where I try to meet as many people as possible. Most
of the time when I do this I do not monitor my phone and cannot engage in
WeChat. But people in the group are interested in knowing more about me and
my positions. That's fair. But I guarantee you that we will not agree on
everything. My main platforms for running in the district I am running in
have to so with state legislative issues that concern my potential
constituents. I will vote in their interest on matters that are decided on
by the state and that will affect their lives. So there will be issues that
are legitimate planks of a platform that my campaign will run on, like
funding for public education and affordability of higher education, services
for immigrants, seniors, and the disabled that is decided in the state
budget; state-level civil rights and voting rights, and state government
regulatory and anti-corruption issues. You all have to understand that the
district I am running in is very different from the suburban areas you live
in. It is 54% Latino, 24%Asian, 20%, white and 2% African American. The
median income is under $40,000. The Chinese population there consists of
many senior citizens and newer immigrants who have low-wage jobs and many
challenges in their lives. I care about all of these people and want to
represent them effectively. I do obviously have views on gun control and
minimum wage, and maybe they are positions that you don't agree with me
about, but you don't have to agree with everything I believe in to support
me. My main objective right now is to be elected so I can represent the
people in my district and look out for their well-being. I will also speak
up for and generally represent Asian Americans broadly because I will likely
be the only Asian American in the state legislature. And I played a similar
riel representing Asian Americans when I worked for Governor Quinn. I have
a track record there which you can all look up or ask me about when we have
a chance to talk in person. But since I am busy running this campaign, I am
going to have limited participation in group discussions here. Issues are so
complex sometimes that WeChat is not a good forum for thoughtful discourse.
I have already written a lot. And this most-likely all I will contribute
today. It is another busy day that will involve a couple morning meetings
and 5 hours out knocking on doors before coming back to the office for the
grand opening. | d*****k 发帖数: 310 | 2 You all have to understand that the
