President Barack Obama used the annual bipartisan St. Patrick’s Day
gathering on Capitol Hill to speak out against a shared problem in
Washington — Donald Trump.
“I know that I’m not the only one in this room who may be more than a
little dismayed about what’s happening on the campaign trail recently,”
Obama said at the Friends of Ireland Luncheon, held a few days early to
accommodate a visit by Ireland’s prime minister. Obama pointed not only to
the “vulgar and dismissive rhetoric” but also to “misguided attempts to
shut down that speech, however offensive it may be.”
