Public housing projects great place to raise kids, liberal study finds
By Ed Straker
If you're a parent, maybe you've told your kids that if they want to make
more money in life, they have to go to college. No more. In our
fundamentally transformed America, growing up in a housing project will have
a similar effect, according to a highly dubious study pimped by the
Washington Post. Now, instead of sending your kids to expensive colleges,
all you have to do is ship them off to a housing project!
Children who spend more time in public housing will earn hundreds of
dollars more each year than they would have if their parents had not
received housing assistance from the government during those years. Children
who benefit from public housing are also less likely to be imprisoned,
according to the data.
Mo' money, less prison! It's a win-win!
Not having to worry about paying private-sector rents, parents might
have more time to spend on their children – helping them with their
homework, keeping them out of trouble and guiding them to a more successful
adulthood, the researchers theorize.
Yes, parents in public housing (or should I say "parent in public housing"?)
don't have to "worry" about paying rent and have more time to nurture their
kids. That's why the kids turn out so well, right?
For girls, an additional year in public housing increased their annual
earnings when they were 26 years old by $488 on average and reduced the
likelihood that they were in prison by about 11 percent.
An additional year with Section 8 vouchers increased their earnings at
26 by $468, while lessening their chance of incarceration by about 9 percent.
Imagine if girls could spend ten or more years in public housing. They'd
probably be earning six-figure salaries when they came out!
However, for black boys growing up in the very poorest projects, the
benefits of housing assistance when they entered the labor force were also
indistinguishable from zero.
This caveat is understandable because America is a racist country. Our
black president and black attorney general will be the first to tell you
that.
So here's how it must work. A lot of children in public housing are raised
by single moms. Many kids have so little contact with their dads that they
don't even know where to mail the cards on Father's Day.
But mothers, who don't have to worry about earning a living, since others
will pay their way, must spend hours every day reading to their kids and
teaching them writing, geography, and algebra. Then, when their children
are forced to go to the local ghetto school run by the American Federation
of Teachers, they get a first class education, and before you know it, they
are earning big bucks.
Speaking seriously, years ago, Hillary Clinton famously said it "takes a
village to raise a child." This isn't so different, saying it takes a
housing project to raise a child. It's all part of the left's justification
for failed welfare spending.
We know that public housing projects are crime-infested slums. We know that
housing projects aren't maintained properly because residents aren't paying
real rent. We know that housing projects foster colonies of baby mommas
who make more baby mommas. An "impartial" "study" in the Washington Post,
the same Washington Post that regularly posts "impartial" "studies" about "
global warming" and other issues advocated by the paper, simply doesn't mean
very much to an educated mind using common sense.
