Trump campaign pushes back on claim they’re abandoning Virginia
The Trump campaign is pushing back on an NBC report suggesting the campaign
is pulling out of Virginia.
Sources told NBC News that GOP strategists were left “blindsided” after
the decision came down late Wednesday from Trump headquarters. The report
cited a source saying the campaign is shifting focus to Pennsylvania,Florida
, North Carolina and Ohio.
But John Ullyot, a Trump spokesman, released a statement saying they “
remain absolutely committed to winning in Virginia.” He also said “
together with the RNC and the state Party,we will have all the resources we
need to re-take the Commonwealth at the Presidential level in November.”
The campaign seemed to acknowledge some shifting resources for now, though,
saying: “While we're reallocating some of our staff strategically to
accommodate early voting in nearby priority states such as North Carolina,
our campaign leadership and staffing remains strong in Virginia.”
One Virginia GOP source told FoxNews.com that the decision comes after some
within the state party ranks expressed their concerns over Trump’s
candidacy. They told leaders they believed state party resources need to be
refocused to help embattled congressional seats and to continue to build the
party’s ground game for next year’s gubernatorial election. |
