Cuomo (D) is putting forth a proposal for free tuition at state and city
colleges.
“Delighted that @NYGovCuomo proposed free college for ppl making <125K in
NY. A plan @SenSanders & I worked hard on,” the 2016 Democratic
presidential nominee wrote on Twitter.
Cuomo announced the plan, which would allow students from families earning $
125,000 or less per year to go tuition free, earlier on Tuesday. He was
joined by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who made free college tuition one of
his key proposal's in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"With an exploding technology, and with most of the good-paying jobs
requiring more and more education, we need to make certain that every New
Yorker, every Vermonter and every American gets all the education they need
regardless of family income,” Sanders said in a statement.
Clinton in June announced her own college tuition plan, which also allow
students from families making less than $125,000 per year to qualify for
free in-state tuition at public universities.
“The plan will be phased in over five years, but families earning $85,000
or less will immediately be able to attend an in-state college or university
without paying any tuition,” Clinton’s website said in an announcement at
