linebacker Von Miller after he knelt during the national anthem on Sunday.
Phil Long Dealerships, a group of car dealers in the Colorado Springs area,
asked TV stations in Colorado Springs and Denver to stop airing its ads
featuring Miller, according to The Gazette in Colorado Springs.
The Gazette reports that an employee at the company confirmed it had dropped
Miller.
Miller said after Sunday's game that he and his teammates took a knee during
the anthem because they “felt like they had to do something.”
“We felt like President Trump’s speech was an assault on our most
cherished right, freedom of speech,” Miller told reporters. “At this time
we felt like, as a team, we had to do something. We couldn’t just let
things go.”
Players across the NFL knelt and locked arms during the playing of the
national anthem in response to Trump’s criticism of athletes who don’t
stand for the anthem. |
