I’ve actually done several short informal surveys of that — spanning 30+
years from when the matter first cropped up in the 1980s, then again before
the 1997 and after it, and another one around 5 years ago.
It was an irresistible thing to do — especially in the face of all those ‘
surveys’ done or reported in the newspapers. I’d like to get a ‘handle’
on things too in my own way.
In case anyone wonders, my first degree was in psychology and statistics,
and I’ve been formally trained in designing and conducting surveys — so
technically irresistible in that department for me.
MY MOST RECENT (2014/15)
Hypothesis/expectation:— I expected that more Hong Kong people would rather
choose to be under British rule as a colony.
Sample size and age cohorts:—
Total sample size:— 100 persons (100%)
0–20 years old — 20% of total sample
21–30 years old — 20% of total
31–40 years old — 20% of total
40–50 years old — 20% of total
50+ years old — 20% of total
Results (latest survey in 2014):—
Cohort 0–20 year old — 85% for China; 15% for UK; 0% undecided
Cohort 21–30 years old — 70% for China; 25% for UK; 5% undecided
Cohort 30–40 years old — 40% for China; 50% for UK; 10% undecided
Cohort 41–50 years old — 25% for China, 65% for UK, 10% undecided
Cohort 50+ years old — 10% for China, 80% for UK, 10% undecided
Raw headcount results:—
For China:— 17 + 14 + 8 + 5 + 2 = 46 persons
For UK:— 3 + 5 + 10 + 13 + 16 = 47 persons
Undecided:— 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 7 persons
(Total headcount all cohorts:— 100 persons)
Remember, this is my own privately conducted survey — not a formal
sociological demographic survey. So no criticisms and just accept the
figures at face value, please.
This is the first time I’ve released any figures of my surveys. I shall be
blogging about this in due course in greater detail on my own outside blog. |
