That's right, total number of high rise buildings of Chicago, New York City
(Manhattan inclusive), San Francisco, Miami, Phoenix, Philadelphia,
Boston, Washington DC, Huston, Dallas, Portland, Seattle, Mexico City, Las
Vegas, you name it, all combined, I think is still much smaller than that of
the city area of Shanghai.

I guess the total contruction area of all high rise buildings in Shanghai
has doubled that of all the high rises combined in all cities in the United
States including Alaska and Hawii, as of 2013. Believe it or not, there are
close to 25 million people living in Shanghai, its a mega city.

This was recorded nearly 4 years ago, wasn't it? Traveled on a section of
Yan'an overhead bridge which is about 20 meters above ground level, starting
from outside of Hong Qiao Development Zone (not including it) in the inner
inner west of shanghai and ending in Lujiazui. Pretty old clip,
however the actual shanghai city area is way larger than what can be seen on
this video clip.

The cars are REALLY similar. I didn't expect rick-shaws, but I'm pretty sure
those are the same cars in my neighborhood. weird.

Why are the skyscrapers looking so American-like (read: dusty, old and
blocky)? Why not make European style skyscrapers, which look more modern and
organic than the American ones, like in Frankfurt, Paris (La
Defense) or London?

Shanghai's super-size 35km x 35km CBD is (astonishingly) filled with over 14
,000 skyscrapers, almost doubling the total number of skyscrapers in the
United States, compared to Manhattan and its surrounding areas' 2,
000 skyscrapers in NY. so,i think Shanghai is much bigger than Tokyo,
actually, you can google them, serch some pictures and make comparison. |
