Equipment makers expect biggest decline ever
The semiconductor industry is battered by oversupply,
excess production capacity and anemic demand. The
Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International trade
group expects sales of chip testing and assembly gear
to drop 35 percent this year - the largest decline ever.
Furthermore, the group says it may take until 2004 to
match last year's sales. Intel, the bellwether of the chip industry,
