Even if you mean no harm, racial and ethnic jokes are not funny. They can:
make people feel uncomfortable
emphasize people's differences
imply that certain racial or ethnic backgrounds are a negative trait
insult and degrade people
create a culture of mistrust
create stress that negatively affects job performance
If someone tells a racial or ethnic joke, speak up! Object to the conduct if
you feel comfortable doing so. We all have a role to play in helping to
create and maintain a culture of respect for one another in the workplace. |
