sister's in LA too, she and my parents will know. -- for my previous trips, I
let them know afterwards....

seriouly...
BTW, can you give a little more detail about the mountaineering route?
Is there any snow at Whitney in summer?
How diffficult is the lower part of the route (from portal to iceberg lake)?
Crampon needed for this lower part?

detour and back on the ridge. Depending on the snow condition in Christmas,
most likely, I guess, crampon is needed before iceberg lake. but you may still
want to bring your hiking shoes, I think you need them in lower land.
from portal up, there's a trail to follow. If followed the right direction(as
we got down last time), there shouldn't be much obstacle on the way. and the
first quarter of the climb should be along a b

with us. They have started to prepare gears.
If no one oppose, I will bring them in.

enough free time too.
