Look up words in an English dictionary, how many words are from French,
Germany, even Chinese!!! I would take it as an excuse. An alien writer could
make more attraction and suffer less critics than a native writer.

His answer is reasonable to me since I am a Chinese too. But
as one of my friend asked me, "how can a man dispise his own language?" She
think every language in this world is beautiful. The irony
is, I can really understand Ha Jin in some way. Chinese are strange, they are
so much in love with their country that sometimes they have to hate it
with the same enthusiam.

guess that he is making quite use of his past---he wrote stories about his
experiences in China many years ago. As for the old language, which is of no

views (though dominant nowadays) than eastern. however i haven't read any
books by Hajin or Gao, so no position to talk about their work...What do you
think about their work comparing with, say, Lu Xun, Lao She or modern writers
like Wang Meng, Zhang Chenzhi?

it is OK to ignore him as a Chinese writer. For Gao Xingjian, I read some part
of Lin Shan, really hard for me to enjoy his work. I don't think he could
be comparable to Lu Xun or Lao She. If he wrote and publish his works in
China, I don't think they would draw any attentions from public only by
their literature values.
Wang Meng is OK for me because I read a lot of his works. But he seldom

Love-hatred is just like a double-edged sword, and sometimes it hurts too
much.
Especially true when sober overseas chinese people look upon the homecountry.
But I don't think those people, who were mistreated in china (50's-80's) then
left the country, still have that love in their hearts. I was lucky to grow up
in 70's-80's and never been abused, so i still have the love and nostalgia,
but not the so-called patriotism, which has been exaggerated.

least a little bit. I asked what was politics. He said to love our
country was what he meant the least bit. I tole him I would love
my country for ever with no doubt.

People as my parents were sort of "brainwashed" by the ritualized
belief of communism. Now at his 60s, father sometimes thinks he
may have done more work with accomplishments if was not being
"simple and naive" as their generation was.
But in some circumstance, I don't think it was bad, say all the
young people were full of belief and passion at their early 20-30s
and did work hard to contribute to the country. Something doesn't
