You should always check labels before you buy. Never shop for food only
based on price, or you will pay
dearly later. Here are some tips.
1) Genetically modified food.
They are abundant in soft drinks in the form of high fructose corn syrup,
stabilizers etc; Most packaged food
that contain corn starch; Tofu products and soy milk that are not labeled as
genetically modified food free.
2) Transfat.
Almost all restaurants use them, including cheap Chinese restaurants that
does a lot of frying. Packaged
food, cheap cakes and ice creams, shortenings.
3) Artificial color and other chemicals
They are used abundantly in almost all processed food as well as meat
products such as bacon, cheese,
sausages, etc. Check label to see what's in there.
4) Phosphate Nitrite
This chemical is the active ingredient in detergents, but thanks to FDA,
they are also allowed in meat
products to enhance their tenderness and add weight. If you see on the
package labels saying "15% liquid
added", you are likely to find PN in it. Frozen chicken breasts always
contain this chemical but in Tyson
brand frozen chicken parts that labeled all natural, only salt walter is
added. |
