Sept. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc. failed to win a U.S.
panel's backing to sell lorcaserin, an experimental diet pill that would
be the company's first drug.
The San Diego-based company's medicine doesn't work well enough to justify
potential risks when used long-term in overweight and obese patients,
outside advisers to the Food and Drug Administration said in a 9-5 vote
today in Adelphi, Maryland. While the FDA usually follows its advisory
panels' recommendations, it isn't required to do so. | K********g
