as long as you mow it regularly. This is the property no other common turf
grass has. I had builder installed Tiff419 bermuda when I moved in my new
house. Weeds are always problems since I use organic stuff only for fear of
the never ending lawn disease, poisoning cycles. Organic lawn care builds up
the health soil and thus is an investment. However Bermuda is such a high
input grass: it needs a lot of nitrogen to grow dense and as a consequence
it grows very fast resulting in a non uniform lawn just a few days after
mowing. Now I have bought 50 squares of Meyer zoysia ($2 per square) from a
local sod farm to plug in my bermuda lawn. They are expanding steadily and
choke out everything else in their path. Why Meyer zoysia? It has the
narrowest blade among all medium blade zoysia (which are more drought
tolerant than finer ones). I keep them at 3 inches and after 2 months of
establishment I never have to water them during the summer of Atlanta ! They
are very elegant looking, dense and very green. I feed them with soybean
meal bought from local feed stores for under $20 per 50lb bag, which
contains 4lb nitrogen. | e*f 发帖数: 1709 | 2 Meyer zoysia also greens up one month earlier than Bermuda and most other
zoysias in Atlanta area. If I had a choice when buying the house, I should
have chosen Meyer zoysia even if it meant that I had to put down a few
thousand dollars more. With Meyer zoysia in the south, one could just mow
once a week in its growing season (at 3 inches to achieve high drought
tolerance and vigor) and do essentially nothing else to have one of the best
lawns in your neighborhood. You can google "zoysia" to find a lot of
information. My own 1-year experience is to use an organic program for
zoysia, since it's such a low input grass perfect for organic approach. As a
result you should have few issues with disease or thatch. In case of a
little thatch (due to over fertilization), spread sugar after a rain. | m**a 发帖数: 1228 | 3 sounds good. i wish Zoysia can also work in New England.

Zoysia shouldn't be planted in the north unfortunately since it's a warm
season grass. Even though Meyer zoysia will survive there, it's just not
nice to have a brown lawn in spring and fall while all other lawns are green
