Hello amazing foster volunteers!
I am writing to all of you, regardless of the species of animals you prefer
to foster or if you currently have foster animals in your home, to reach out
for help. We received an enormous call for help that I am hoping you
can help us answer – San Jose Animal Care Services is past capacity for
holding kittens that are healthy and adoptable. To avoid having to
euthanize healthy kittens, they have reached out to us to pull 60 adoptable
kittens. As you may have noticed in my recent emails, our rooms are
brimming over with kittens and we don’t have space at the shelter to house
anywhere close to that many kittens.
With the 4th of July quickly approaching, many foster homes are not
available over the holiday weekend and thus are not able to take kittens at
this moment.
I cannot guarantee we will have adoption space available for any of these 60
kittens before the holiday weekend. If our adoptions continue as they
are, we probably will not.
What we need to have in order to save as many of these guys as possible is
foster homes. And lots of them.
If you, or anyone you know, is willing to help, please let me know. We
can arrange for fosters to pick up kittens directly from San Jose Animal
Care and Services, then schedule an appointment for the kittens to come here
for an initial examination with our medical team.
Please reach out to your friends and neighbors. If you know anyone who
is able to help a litter of kittens (or a single or a pair, really anything)
, please let me know. We have set up foster orientations every week to
try to capture as many new foster homes as possible, but at this point
attending a foster orientation is not required prior to fostering kittens.
We will use you as a “mentor” to the new foster family you recruit.
If they wish to continue to foster beyond this one time, that would be
great. If not, we would still love their help with this large need.
I say it all the time that foster volunteers save lives. This is one of
those times where EVERY kitten that can go to foster from SJACS is having
his/her life saved. And it is because of foster homes.
