No, directory file is another file own by file system itself.
It contain many directory entry. The entry entry is just contain
the name and attribute and file it points to. The main purpose
is to do the name to inode lookup.
In journal file system, you can consider it atomic on disk.
In other file system, no, it is not atomic on disk. That is
why it need fsck after unclean shutdown.
In memory it is usually protected by the directory lock.

我的理解是
用户被分到其中data nodes中.
这个信息存在directory中
当发信给user_id， 要做
1. 连接directory service, 查找user_id的node
2. 把信存到user_id@node的记录里
有个问题
directory service 需要内存
假设1.5B user, 每个mapping 用10 byte
15B byte = 15G 内存
但是这么多request都到了directory service,
只是读还好， 可以load balancer
但是写怎么办
这里需要一个 concurrent hashmap,
lock, etc
性能总有限制啊? |

有一个专门的account run Apache。但是这个account在python下面居然不能access 自
己的home directory.
我试了在网页上用python print user name和home directory，都没有问题。用os.
access()看看有没有home directory access，居然是False。
诡异的是，在command line上，这个account可以access home directory，一点问题都
没有。
home path是用expanduser("~") return的，所以不会有typo。
太奇怪了。 |

Here is the purpose and advantage of autohome and /home directory.
That is, you can have anybody, to have a home directory under
/home/username
or
/home/dept/username
yet these users/dept expand many drives/directories.
This is not possible w/ conventional NFS mount. The advantage is
the convenience, so you one wouldn't need to modify /etc/passwd
each time one needs to expand the harddisk and change directories
(which can be a pain for NIS |

executable file pop3 under directory /home/ouc/util, and
/home/ouc/util is added to PATH. So I can run pop3 anyway.
The problem is, pop3 needs to read some file which is under
the same directory as pop3, if I start pop3 at a directory
different from /home/ouc/util, say /home/ouc, how does pop3
get the directory where it itself resides? By the way,
getcwd doesn't work. I know how to do this, by calling
GetModuleName, under windows, but |

JDK only has one, File. And an API list() that will return null for non-
directory. Nothing wrong on either approach, for interview, the former one
