have discovered three powerful antibodies, the strongest of which
neutralizes 91% of HIV strains, more than any AIDS antibody yet discovered.

I just read this on my cellphone.
It is likely an antibody against a conserved region of the virus.
Such a concept exists for a long time but I am suprised it took so
long to produce something like that for HIV

Actually it is not that difficult as we may think
For example we can figure out the binding pocket of the antibody and then
either make it a monoclonal mini-antibody for injection or make the DNA
for generation of such a antibody and clone it into our bone marrow stem
cells

How come? Such thing can be done in vitro in a rather straight forward way.
Can we transfect the donor bone marrow cells and then go for immuno
stimulate
and selection and finally select for the memory B cell that express that
particular antibody and put it back to the donor's body?
I mean there will be a lot of work invovled but in theory that should be
doable
right?

其实都用不了这么麻烦 直接在造血干细胞里面突变掉CCR5然后原封不动的给患者注射回
去就行了 也不需要考虑哪个antibody好用 呵呵
其实拿bone marrow cell出来转了基因然后种回去已经做了n个临床实验了 效果不好说
但是至少是feasible的

scientists to develop a vaccine or other methods to make anyone's body
produce them."

I just read this article. It seems pretty good.
In the last figure, they compare the neutralization potency and breadth of
the new antibody VRC01 with that of b12, a well-known broadly neutralizing
Ab against CD4 binding site of gp120. Under IC50 <50 ug/ml, VRC01 can
neutralize 91% of 190 Env pseudoviruses, whereas b12 can only neutralize 41%.
One question about the paper is that they design a molecule, RSC3, that
keeps the antigenicity of CD4 binding site of gp120 whereas remove the
antigenicit
