I think you should do one of two things. If you decide to take it, no
problem. However, an alternative strategy is this:

However, the salary is considerably below the median.
Faculty at my department tell me that the last ten placements ranged from $
xxa to $xxb thousand with a median of $xxc,000. If you can provide the

This is a very good research university with a very good program. For me, it
would like a hit to a millinoaire lottery. My advisor tried a lot to help
me in and surely wanted me to be there.
A little bit background may be helpful. My advisor is a typical white male
faculty, and if you count the top 5 scholars in my field, he is surely in.
He is blunt, and open to me. I adopted the strategy and succeeded in
increasing my salary to the median level, which is impressively hi | x*****d

your own sense to decide whether use it or not. It is different case by case
(your qualification and school type).

我negotiate offer时大致上就是这样说的，还在想系主任会有几种说法，结果系主任
说，OK，you got it，搞得我当场愣住了，还多问了一遍证实。
后面说的有点blunt，可以soft一些。
