Sounds to me that a fitting area is important most of all.
Also a question to all who are experienced: what will you think is a good
job talk? and how important a job talk is? 50%, 80%, or 100%? I ask this
because I wonder how many audience can really understand the talk anyway, no
matter it's good or not good ...
I tried to make my talk understood by everybody, but looks like it didn't.

果你能讲得连不是这行的人都挺大概知道你在干什么，那就很成功了。

understand?

今年我们系面的几个人里面我最中意的一个（可以有很多合作那种），Job talk时候把
一个化合物结构式搞错了，不明显，因为本来也是讲生化的题目，偏偏我们系主任是做
有机的，一下就抓出来了，然后尽管系里除了我还有两个也把这人放第
一，我们系主任就是不同意，后来前面的几个都Take了其它学校的Offer，也没有给这
人，最后的结果是明年继续找，接下来秋天课都没人上也不招。

narrow and deep" quote from the SC chair, although I tried to link it with
many big and broad issues at the introduction part.

field or there are also students, especially undergrads.
And also practice before you go to campus visits. practice with your advisor
, your colleagues, and even your friends who are not familiar with your
field and topic.
