I heard this place from Friend's referral. Since this school is a kind of
famous in Chinese community, I send my kid to the school without second
thought in 1/2014.
Now I want to share some of my experience:
1. Based on Child drawing skills, they put kids into different cloud. Level
1 Purple, Level 2 Blue, Level 3 Green etc. But I found normally if you kid
are new to their school, they will put your kid into purple cloud. I see kid
form 4 years old to 7 years old all into Purple. The younger ones can not
draw basic circle, the older ones kind of wasting time. My kid was the
second oldest in the purple cloud.
2. They do not share what they taught in the classroom, you get no feedback
on what was taught in the classroom, where you can help your kid to improve,
etc. At least that is my experience in Purple cloud. The parents do not
know what skills was taught last week and what they will teach next week. I
do not understand this blackbox teaching style. When I ask, their manager
Tommy told me to ask my kid. This is totally irresponsible ! How much the 6
year old can share with you and how could they know?
3.When I see some problem in Feb., I still respect their reputation. So I
decide to schedule a parent meeting with them. I though maybe my kid's
drawing skill is indeed the same as 4 year old (even I send my kid to other
art schools for 1.5 years before hongyun). The first time the organizer Jenn
simply forget and did not show, I dialed in the web meeting they provided
and no one show up. I have to ask Tommy again to request the meeting. In the
rescheduled meeting, Jenn promise to look into my concerns and she said
they normally do evaluation in April.
4. So I waited from Feb. to April and finally get the evaluation, they said
my kid should be in blue meadow cloud.
5. Then in May I found that my kid is still in purple cloud. And hongyun put
other young kid into purple cloud classroom who really has no basic drawing
skill yet. I went ahead ask hongyun why, the front desk lady Mindy told me
the change of the cloud actually happens in June - when this semester ends.
6. I said I want to talk to the manager, Mindy told me "Hongyun prefer email
communication". I insist I need to talk to the manger on the phone. Mindy
told me to wait for two weeks. I know the manager was out that day and next
week was holiday. But I want to solve the issue. I do not understand why I
have to wait for 2 weeks for a phone call!
7. Later in the same day, Ms. Heather in Hongyun told me I have two options:
a. Manger Tommy will talk with me, but wait for 2 weeks. b. There is no
need to talk to the manager. My kids has two class left in this semester,
they will reimburse the cost of that two classes. I insist that I need to
talk to the manager.
8. Eventually I talked with the Manager Tommy. He did not want to admit
there is a problem. He said they have over 400 students, and I am the first
parents raise this level misplace issue. I know it is BS, because I know
another parents in the same class expressed the similar concerns.
9. A week later, I talked with the manager Tommy second time. He admit there
is a problem in his process. But he argued that "There is a distribution.
There are always a few students will be misplaced". I am totally pissed!
They do not care about the feeling of kids at all! How about some other
school misplace his kid!
10. In the middle of the discussion. Ms. Hongyun herself came over once and
try to offer me 2 free classes on blue cloud as a remedy. I said their
treatment to the kid are not right, then she said "I can not help you any
more". I told her I do not want her help, I am going to sue Hongyun school.
This is not the right way to do business and treat your customer! They also
hurt kid's feeling!
I feel hongjun's strategy on their "could system": you have no options but
follow their cloud steps one by one. Just pay the money each semester, if
you are lucky, your kid may advance one cloud.
This is not right and need to be changed!

They look good only for small kids playing with drawing.
Hongyun focusing too much on the business side these years.
You can always try another place.

I believe no parent here have ever saw how they taught in the classroom, nor
figure out something from kid's mouth.

this is exactly the same thing we were treated at Hongyun. Seems they have
too many kids now so they don't care at all.

我还挺中意红云这种玩画画的地方的,可惜离得远,接送太不方便。
要是在别处开分校就好了。

Hongyun art 对小小孩来说就是个寓教于乐的地方,如果你觉得自己的孩子有画画天赋
怕被耽误,想从小抓起那红云不适合。我儿子5岁出头去的Hongyun, tryout后进了blue
class, 前台大叔说还不多见。我还以为就是随便赞美一下给我听,看来还真是不多见
。可是他画画全凭热情,认真时画的很仔细大多数时候就是瞎画,我看他在Hongyun 还
挺开心的就不纠结具体细节了,毕竟他现在还小,培养兴趣更重要。
