before the start of the 100mile one, I wore my 3-lay-running clothes with a
big jacket to get a glimpse of what those 100 milers looked like. Wow,
Scott Jurek really has a 1000Watt smile, then I noticed both Scott and Anton
Krupicka were wearing shorts at this about 20F temperature. |

mountain watersheds and acid mine drainage.] Krupicka earned his BA from
Colorado College[8] in 2005, double-majoring in physics and philosophy.

to run on trail a lot when I was in Corvallis too. In fact Washington state

Each time I get out in the mountains and run to a summit I am entering a
creative space where what I am creating is not something material but rather
a singular and unique experience relative to my strengths, weaknesses,
situation and previous experience-base, and as such each run in the
mountains is an invaluable opportunity for learning, growth and creative
self-expression.

赛。这个比赛分50k、50m和100k三个距离。分别绕三藩的Lake Merced跑7圈、10圈和14
圈。为了保证距离的精确，对起点、终点做了精心的安排。这个比赛允许临时改变距离
。比如说，你报100k但是可以选择只跑50k或50m。但是一旦选择继续跑，如果不能到达
下一个距离，结果就是DNF。这个规则好，后面可以看到，它给了我意外的惊喜。
RA的赛道比较平，又地处繁华的三藩市。每年能吸引到不少特别优秀的runner来创造新
的纪录。今年就来了Ian Sharman，他2月份刚在Rocky Raccoon 100迈的比赛中，将传
奇英雄Anton Krupicka甩下半个多小时，以12小时44分的优异成绩创下了美国人100迈
trail run的新纪录。能和这样的传奇人物同场比赛，激动人心啊。他最终3小时10分54
秒跑完50公里，创造了RA50的新记录。
我最终10小时51分55秒完成比赛。official time split如下：

发帖数: 1283 | 41 7/24, 中午到Aspen，还没拿到apartment钥匙，把包放办公室里，换鞋换衣服带水带墨
镜，直奔Aspen mountain而去。Aspen海拔7900 ft，Aspen山顶的ski lift海拔11,200
ft, Aspen mountain road大约5迈的土路，爬升3300尺。在城里的平路上跑起来就马上
感觉大不一样，jogging pace，呼吸象跑tempo一样。到了trail上爬坡时腿都软了，10
分钟之内乳酸堆积就非常厉害，在15％的坡上只能走，走走又跑，跑跑又走，心想这么
陡的破，下来就要废了。爬着爬着发现头顶上的ski lift正在运转，心想太好了，到了
顶上可以乘ski lift下去。爬了一个多小时终于到顶，心想这可能是爬坡最狠的一次了
，虽然只有5迈已经觉得可以call it a day。ski lift的工作人员说, "you hiked up,
you earned it!" 原来乘lift下去是免费的，爽！
6.6 mi/1:37:47, avg pace 14:49.

cross meadows, swamps, and even a river. We had to walk through water 5,6
times, before the climb toward Hope Pass starts. When I hit the trail, it
became immediately obvious that this will be hiking, not running (unless you
are Kilian Jornet or Anton Krupicka, perhaps). I had hiked up 14ers in each
of the previous three weekends, and was full of confidence when it comes to

could not have done any damage. I did feel good at the time. Any thing can
happen in a 100 miler. Last year, even Anton Krupicka destroyed himself and
crashed out of the race at Fish Hatchery. |

During training, on runs of 4 hours of more I generally eat one GU per hour
after the first two hours. I have found this to usually be enough but
certainly not ideal in terms of energy needs. In the summer I will carry a
20 oz. bottle on runs over 2 hours (and refill at streams when I feel the
need). In the winter, I generally need to be running 4 hours in order to
bring a bottle along. This kind of fueling allows me to keep running but I
