这首诗不怎么合我口味,不想写详细的评论。:-) 总之,第一段里的“flower”是真花、第二段里的“flower”是诗人心中之花(也就是thistles)。
归于“Fig”的含义,看第一段对仗的两句就知道,Fig是和Hurrah意思相反的一个词:
Hurrah for thistle...
A fig for the flowers...
而且,就算“Fig”有花瓣的意思,“A fig for flowers...”在上下文里怎么也读不通啊。

Shame on the reporter of this news! What if Jiang were a American. Will you

BTW, within all the comments on CNN, most of the people seems to understand

不是说论语吗?易经我有点含糊(如果待会儿有人问什么明柔賢生之类我可要遁了),但是这两句很浅显,冒昧说说:
地势坤,君子厚德载物:前三个字忽略。后六字说明伦理的重要 -- 这是孔子理论最大的基础,也是他被人称颂“万古如长夜”的原因之一。遗憾的是这不是孔子的发明,在他之前起码周礼里就反复提及了。现代伦理哲学更是扬弃了古典的道德观点。有兴趣地搜索一下Moore的Ethical Intuitionism,或者更进一步Sir Ayer的Boo-Hurrah Theory。你自己扪心自问,你是否真正信仰只要“厚德”就能“载物”,开会说场面话除外。谢谢。
一个简单的反问:如果“德”的目的/后果之一是“载物”,那么这句直接简化为“君子载物”好了。
一定要把“德”和“物”联系起来,是典型的伦理自然主义,全世界的古典伦理体系都是这样,儒教是其中之一而已。孔子特别的地方就是,他的伦理体系根本不是一个体系,仅仅告诉你若干结论,其论证过程是后世人一点点凑起来的(当然无法突破一开始规定的框架)。

The cold front we've been tracking through the central and eastern states
the last several days will make its final hurrah on Friday.
Over the Northeast, gusty winds will usher in cooler temperatures behind the
front. High temperatures will trend back closer to middle-December averages

以前没在中国工作过,也没什么管理方面的工作经验,一直在做engineer. 像这种情况
在美国前十名左右的学校,比如说,duke, michigan, berkeley,读个MBA对回国找工
作有多大帮助?

top的MBA当然帮助很大,大多能在毕业前找到工作。如果回国的话基本是去国外投行和
咨询公司在国内的分部。不过都挺累的。年纪大的干几年如果不升职的话估计受不了。

The reasons are simple.
1.) There wasn't any bad Intel news in the earnings report. There was the
same ole mantra about sluggishness in PC sales of course but we knew that.
And it's been baked in for six months now. For two quarters in a row, Wall
Street has projected huge misses and they just didn't happen.
2.) There was the red herring about excessive Capex, which is, of course,
not excessive. Otellini explained it but the analysts simply aren't smart

The reason is simple: America deserves another Bush. If McCain wins,
everything will be the same, but China will have at least 4 more years to
catch up.
For any reason, Clinton should be encouraged to run as an independent.
