How do I enable IMAP?
You can retrieve your Gmail messages with a client or device that supports
IMAP, like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail.
To enable IMAP in your Gmail account:
Log in to your Gmail account.
Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Select Enable IMAP.
Configure your IMAP client* and click Save Changes. |

我们学校的邮件服务器地址是imap.xuniversity.edu 和smtp.xuniversity.edu，如果
我在outlook 里设置邮箱时选择imap，再填上上述地址，在outlook 里实际上不是本地
收发信，而是在server 上收。如果我在设置邮箱时选择pop3，再填上imap 和smtp 地
址，就可以本地收发信了。一个奇怪现象是：选择pop3 后，在outlook 里只能给本校
里的邮件地址发信，不能给别的邮件系统（比如别的学校，hotmail等）发信，但收信
却可以收任何地方来的信。请问这是怎么回事？谢谢。
另问一下：gmail 能用outlook 来收吗？ |

参考了gmail的instruction，manually configure 设置了SSL， TSL等。
Check Account Setting出错：
Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP): The connection to the server was
interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).
我在gmail里可以收到outlook发的test email。有什么建议么？谢谢。 |

不过象我这样只用webmail，用thunderbird来做本地备份的，
用POP3就够了。如果需要从几个不同的客户端进入同一帐号，
IMAP就舒服很多。 |

可以用telnet发信，从其他计算机也可以，可以发到外部邮箱。
2、postfix本机收信OK
发给local用户的信都可以读，Maildir可用
3、imap OK
courier-imap装了，可以telnet到143端口，login, 可以用我手机的客户端收信。但是不能发，relay error 554
4、postfix不能收外部邮件

很久说 cannot connect the server 之类。学校应该用的就是微软的系统，web 客户
端是 owa
用 apple mail 就没有问题，诡异

system. This morning my boss told me he lost all the emails received last
month. Does anybody know why this happened? I guess when I replaced the imapd
file, my boss's computer was accessing the mailbox. If that's true, is there a
temporary file where imapd put all the emails during crash?

之间，从IMAP转邮到Gmail很方便，因为Gmail也是IMAP。找一个IMAP client，drag
and drop就可以了。我有3G的旧邮件，都是这么转到gmail的……

1、设置gmail
登录gmail，然后网页右上角mail setting - forwarding and pop/imap，然后enable
pop3，disable imap。其实没必要禁用imap，但我怕以后别的程序、手机删除gmail邮
件，所以这里禁用了imap。
2、设置iphone mail
参见gmail的iphone帮助 http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=72454
总之就是把iphone mail设置为pop3，而不是imap。因为iphone mail自动设置gmail为
imap，所以不要选择gmail，而要选择other。 |

重装后，直接在Outlook里打开这个pst的话，只是一个普通的data file，
IMAP邮件设置都不在了。请问如何打开或导入这个pst，才能恢复原有的IMAP设置？

这几天在家跟娃一起玩编程：MIT的Media Lab搞了一个Scratch编程语言，专门面向小
孩子学习编程。买的Raspberry Pi上面就预装了Scratch，还有一个音乐编程语言/工具
：Sonic Pi。
娃这两天用Scratch写游戏，用Sonic Pi写音乐，玩得不亦乐乎……
Raspberry Pi上是一个定制的Debian Linux操作系统，叫做Raspbian，基本用法跟
Debian差不多，程序包也都是用agt-get。用apt-get给Raspberry-Pi装上了一个练习打
字的程序，klavaro，给小孩子学打字很好，然后装了一个Claws Mail，给娃们设置了
一个Gmail账户，用Claws Mail用IMAP访问。最后，纯粹无聊，装了一个USENET
newsreader，tin。
在设置tin的时候，搜索了一下有关的USENET新闻组，居然发现有一个comp.sys.
raspberry-pi新闻组，居然是2013年新建的一个big 8组。印象中big 8很久都没有组建
新的新闻组了，有趣。

2. hosting company (its mail server) configures the IMAP setting. IMAP is
essential part for webmail to work. I can not think of any web hosting
company that do not have IMAP configured on its mail sever nowadays.
Godaddy charges additional money for that???? I don't know that. If this

Many servers in universities or companies support IMAP. If the free email box
does not support it, you can always use fetchmail to get it.

如果你用IMAP协议，所有邮件连同帐号全部从OUTLOOK里删除，正确再SET UP一遍即可
。IMAP的好处就是可重复性，相当于直接对SERVER操作。 |

你老的办法不行，好虫的办法可以。Yahoo的IMAP不支持desktop clients，只支持
mobile clients（比如iPhone，Android，BB）。Thunderbird大概是hack了协议，可以
用Yahoo的IMAP把folders下载下来。Outlook只有POP3，就看不到folder了。 |

在WP上gmail default是用exchange protocol。
如果你设gmail的时候选‘other account’就会用imap protocol；那就没问题了。
iphone，android都是用imap。 |
