有个talk就像放了一颗卫星一样引起大家广泛关注和讨论

就是斯坦福搞了个超级强大的Free Electron Laser
"ultra fast",大概3-60 fs
"extreme high intensity"，差不多是目前第三代Synchrotron的10^12倍(十的十二次方)
Linear的，占地小
最神奇的是Arizona State一个组用这个超级高能的Laser做蛋白结晶的衍射
不仅能收集到衍射pattern
而且居然没有 crystal damage
最最神奇的是，不需要大的蛋白晶体了
都用的nm scale的，大概只有几百个分子的，肉眼看不到的晶体
全部全自动，用auto sampler上样
不需要在cryo-protect，不要mount，不用rotate。。。。
甚至可以遥控的搜集数据
但是数据量非常之大，大到必须要考到硬盘上寄走，无法直接联网下载
talk之后传统搞结构的纷纷喜忧参半
因为大概十年内大家都会开始用这种方法得到蛋白结晶的衍射数据
不用再长很大的晶体会使解构容易不止十倍
