昨天在Rochester honda dealer那里试了下车，最后一辆12款Lx了，最后给出了19000+
tax 1235+fees 400+doc 75=20700的第二轮价格，发给双城的其他dealer，不少都表示
愿意match，但没看到有beat的，我住在Rochester，只是match的话当然不能舍近求远
了。
2012的Accord好像每个dealer都没几辆了，再晾dealer一段时间，是不是可以弄个好些
的价钱。不知道在明州买车期望值应该比加州之类的地方高多少。反正这辆车是高了将
近2000了。要是只高1000，2万块给我出门，我就不考虑了，直接入。 |

住两到三个月，希望预先了解一下各方面情况。
第一，离治疗中心（Gonda Building, 200 1st St SW, Rochester, MN 55902）比较近
的幼儿园，哪几家比较好？
第二，明州允许持中国驾照司机开车上路吗？
第三，如果只住两三个月，买辆二手车合适还是租车合适？
第四，Rochester 有中国超市吗？如果没有，最近的中国超市在哪里？
第五，附近是否有华人聚居区？离治疗中心多远？
第六，当地是否有华人教会，可以提供一点儿辅助性的帮助？
第七，Rochester 地区日常一般开销（水电+食物等等）每月大约多少钱？（俺知道很
难说，只估大概就好）
第八，附近有什么好玩儿的地方，可以让病人散心或者让小朋友开心？
目前只想到这么多，盼回复。

你飞的都是中美国际航班吧？每个城市每天也就一班，根本没有任何大的变数，要取消
也往往改到后一天，并不需要特别多的信息量
国内航班不但飞的城市多，而且同一个城市每天好几班，信息量大许多，变数也多许多
，pek提供的那些可怜的显示屏完全不能满足正常旅客对信息的需要（当然对于那些迷
信登机牌上的信息都是永远正确的旅客来说，他们没有想看显示屏的需要，所以也不会
觉得缺少了些什么了）

现在拿到三个学校phd的offer,
U Maryland 的经济学phd,
Rochester 的经济学phd,
Ohio state 的金融phd,
她自己以后出来也不是很想去当老师,请问去哪个比较好?听说Rochester经济学的排名
很靠前,是比较强的,但是这个系超级tough,然后我家小妹
还没bf, 好像听说Rochester中国人也少,
但是三个学校的综合排名看,好像Ohio State是最低的,不过是不是金融会比较好就业一
点,但是就目前看来,也不知道金融出来还有没有前途了.当然了,金融也会比较难申请了
,也不见得说Ohio state的金融就比另外两个学校的econ不值钱,三个学校都是全奖,
Rochester和Maryland第一年都是fellow, Ohio一进去就要干活,不过这也不是最大的考
虑因素了.
主要是想问问版上的牛人们,综合考虑比较(1)容易毕业,(2)以后的就业,(3)就业之后的
前途 这些方面,马上就要决定了,请牛人们给点意见,谢谢了! |

还要飞纽约再转一次，现在想在多伦多直接取了托运行李然后坐车回Rochester，想问
下这样可不可以，中间转机的时候是不是本来就要拿了托运行李的？之后入境美国会不
会有什么问题？

看了胖老师这段评论，我觉得关于Rochester还是很值得商榷的。
Downtown Rochester的确衰落了，和美国其他的工业城市一样，市区很不景气。柯达，
博士伦都倒闭了。但是！University of Rochester这个学校还是很厉害的。今年新当
选的院士，就有一个是UR的。前几年当选的Lynne E. Maquat，也是UR的。最重要的一
点，UR是私立名校。大部分本科生都是立志要进Medical School的，所以学习很刻苦。
UR的主校区不在市区，周围很安全（别过河就行）。大部分教授住在南边的小镇，比如
Henrietta，Pittsford；日子过得非常惬意。另外，UR的音乐学院Eastman，很多专业
排到全美第一。 |

比如CIT工程被排到了97.还有各个专业的排名,CIT的ME也很后。特意去CIT的ME看了一
下，算上CIVIL的才22个FACULTY,ME这种专业，CIT的1个FACULTY还真就不能说能顶一般
学校的2个faculty。由此ME被排到了95还真挺合理的。
再看USNEWS, ME排在第3位！！！我怎么觉得USNEWS突然非常不靠谱！！

也许三四年离开也许一辈子呆那儿了，家有快3岁的娃，估计会尽快买房。
Rochester附近学区咋样？是不是一般住Rochester Hills？生活便利么（比如买买中国
店东西）？和troy相比呢？都说troy学区更好些，老中也多些，住troy在OU上班便利么
？是不是troy的房子比Rochester Hills要贵好多？

到OU工作，住Troy, Rocheseter Hills或者Rochester比较方便。
住Troy的话I-75高速就到了，没多远。 |

大家关注学区主要还是高中，因为这个直接影响上大学。
同一个学区可以有一个或几个高中，所以在目标是进入某个高中时，不要想当然认为是
这个学区就是这个高中。
比如troy学区，有两个高中，Troy High 和Athen High。rochester 学区有三个高中，
Adam high，stoney creek 和rochester high。
在大底特律地区，在全美排名靠前（比如 us news的排名）的高中Adam， troy high，
Birmingham， andover/lasher， northville.
andover 和 lasher 是Bloomfield的两个高中，正在合并过程中，合并以后，排名也许
会上升一些。
像stoney creek， 是比较新的学校，reputation还没有完全建立起来，不能说就比其
他的差。
另外，学校的好坏，两大影响因素，钱和生源。
有名气的学校，更容易有好生源，更容易出成绩。
关于钱，除了捐款，地税是一大来源。

的穆现在应该是买二手车的好时候，不过女车好像不多，多是24以下的（好象稍微上点
儿档次的就不分男女了吧）。5月份我差点买个二手的Harley 850（以前在北京时骑过3
年摩托车Suzuki 250），不过在我老婆的坚决抵制下泡汤了。
很美同学不在Rochester，他以前可能是UW-Madison出身的，现在北加练铁人三项，顺
带玩短道速滑和轮滑，有时回北京紫龙潭冰场滑大道。我也没见过，我们是在滑冰版认
识的，您有意结识的话可以考古本版，他奔过，一身肌肉。
北京女生滑水冰和轮滑速滑，太少见了。我上中学的时候在北大、紫竹院，大学以后在
什刹海滑室外大道，十几年前的事儿了。我是去年搬来Rochester才开始又捡起速滑的
。咱们村儿地方小，没有大道，得等到冬天到明尼阿波利斯才有大道。Recreation
center每周三五六日晚7-9有室内open skating，我家办的年票140/人，标准冰球场，
只能滑短道。轮滑我就在我家小区里滑，一圈2.3mile；周末可以去北边75街，有个 |
