chromosome方面。 Scott不错，另外还有J Workerman也非常强，而且他实验室的人出
路都非常好，大多数都在北美或欧洲做faculty，有的现在都成为新星了。 |

1. 我们反对任何形式的学术不端行为，并强烈主张一个科技工作者应当保持高标准的
学术道德规范。我们支持揭露任何形式的学术不端。与此同时，要确证学术不端的 案
例，我们必须遵循合法和适当的调查程序。例如，美国公共卫生署关于学术研究不端行
为的处理指南规定，对学术研究不端行为指控的调查，起初应当是非公开 的，其首先
应当由所涉及机构的内部委员会调查并处理。“无罪假定 (Innocent until proven
guilty)”是我们在调查学术不端的指控时必须遵守的一个重要原则。
2. 如果争论或指控不能够在该研究机构内部解决，那么，更高的主管部门和基金支持

One of our lovely ECUST alumni, Dr. Zhixing (William)
Li collapsed and died at the Stowers Institute for
Medical Research in Kansas City last Friday evening,
Feb. 16. Security officers at the Stowers performed
CPR until paramedics arrived, but it was unsuccessful
to save his life. Dr. Li was a visiting scientist at
the Stowers Institute and studied stem cells in

请并愿意到普通学校的chinese AP lab去。这么说，美国招postdoc，第一就是地方，
你要是在湾区，NYC, Boston，那么哪怕是烂校，也远比玉米地里的大学有优势。后者
只有骗外国人去。那个牛皮哄哄的stowers，硬件在美国肯定是前5名的了吧，全是欧洲
跟老中postdoc，专门有一个部门负责跟foreign postdoc接洽的，整个一六国骆驼
贩子 |

stowers institute这样的地方能收到500+的申请，听说来自大牛实验室（院士orHHMI+
院士），手上有CNS文章，PHD还来自牛校的有二十多人。这些人如果把前50的学校都申
请一遍，其他人确实没多少机会。
至于50以后的学校，可能要拼关系了。
不过这一期过去，接下来两年应该会好一些。 |

（三）五湖四海
《小鼠分子胚胎学》的老师和学生可以说来自五湖四海。主讲老师(instructor)
有两位---UMDNJ的Michael Shen和杜克大学的Blanche Capel。辅讲老师
(co-instructor)也有两位---Stowers的Paul Trainor和北卡的David Threadgill。
Michael 和Blanche在2003~2004是辅讲老师，之后转成主讲，今年则是最后一年执
教这个课。明年就会由Paul和David接班。我博士实验室和Michael 合作过，我还
是他一篇文章的第三作者。前面提过，如果不是因为认识他，我是绝无可能被这
个课录取的。所以我对他是相当感激的。以前虽然合作过，但是我没有见过他。
上了这个课之后才对他有些了解。一开始觉得他有点浮，喝酒之后还会比较疯，
比如跳到桌子上跳舞什么的。但是很快我就发现这老哥在学术上非常牛，分析
问题往往是一针见血。比如metastasis领域还主要停留在用裸鼠xenograft为
研究手段的层次上，Michael则认为这种研究方法完全不对。他的想法和我的
想法可谓是 |

手底下的人很support的。正如这个List的那些Nobel Laureate证明的，聪明的人做科研，是不需要对手底下的人那么残酷剥削的 （not true for all )。正因为这些人的存在，让我们这些投身科学的人相信，有一些聪明善良的人在用自己的头脑挑战人类智慧的极限。 也希望那些有志于科研的同学，像这些前辈们学习，在自己成为PI以后，对人宽容大度一些。

能接受的 呵呵 也许一个办法是干满10年就必须要走 到别的大学研究所拿永久职位；要
