作的firm辞了职，终于能静下心来写写这一两年来入行patent law,特别是前年找tech
advisor和今年跳槽的经历，希望能给感兴趣的朋友一点帮助。
先简单说一下自己的情况：我去年在中部一所一般的学校拿得EE的PhD，做的方向是
MEMS，PhD期间发了不少journal paper。3，4年前在mitbbs上面看到mustangv6, want
和ironny等前辈发的转行patent law的帖子，非常感兴趣，下了决心想PhD毕业了去law
firm做tech advisor/patent agent。结果没想到快毕业了08年碰到经济危机，最后折
腾了半年多总算在Cleveland一家中小规模的IP boutique firm找到了tech advisor的
工作。过去一年时间一边工作一边考了patent bar, LSAT，还很幸运的办下了绿卡。考
虑到LP在Cleveland工作机会很少以及自己将来的职业发展，今年初开始发简历想跳槽
到到大城市的所。很幸 |

拿到offer好多天了，却一直没来得及和大家分享经验以回馈版面：一是由于正在
relocate，忙得晕头转向；二是自己找到工作的经历实在没什么出奇之处，感觉写
不出什么新意来；三是自己拿到offer的过程太过幸运，相比之下自己对这行的了解还很肤浅，怕自己的经历会误导大家。不过回过头来一想，就算自己的经历只是过去进入
IP这行前辈们经历的重复，至少也是对入行道路的又一个实证。分享我的经验，也许会
对大家平和心态，更客观独立的审视自己的目标和策略有所帮助。
找patent law这行的工作和找其他工作一样，除非你是超级大牛，否则运气要占很大成
分。天时地利人和都有了，工作就是你的。我可能算是最幸运的申请者之一吧，从投出
第一份简历到拿到offer不到一个月时间。版上ironny, almondjuice前辈的置顶文章加
上abear前辈等的入行经验都是堂皇正道。我个人的经历也验证了其实想要入行，看得
就是自己的机遇+专业背景+personality。

我大概一年以前开始有转IP的想法，当时跟我的老板聊了一下，老板觉得虽然这是一个很多人都不考虑的option,如果我感兴趣，值得一试。他建议我接触一下这方面的知识，毕竟有兴趣才有动力。我于是春季学期跑到法学院去旁听了一门patent law。上课基本上就是在讨论cases,讲USC35。刚开学的时候我还跟得上，到后来因为我既没有复习,也没有读case,对property law也根本没概念，就只是听个热闹而已。Anyway，一个学期下来，我觉得做patent law里面对于细节的要求很多,跟我自己的性格很合拍，虽然讨论繁琐，reading也很多，我还是很感兴趣的，所以就决定了这个career option.

不过我是上pharmacy school开始的，所以一开始就属于intern了。第一年$12／hr，每
年涨$1/hr。
一般的tech pay多少我不大清楚，一般不许我们谈薪水，我也没有认识哪个tech知心到
可以和我谈薪水的地步。不过听好多人说tech比intern薪水少的。大概就象斑竹MM说的
，$9-10／hr吧，不过每年只涨$0.35，还要通过evaluation,表现好才有。
刚开始在cvs做大概会要你做很多cash register work除非你已经知道大部分药名，
indication，insurance stuff。开始尽量多做，多记药名，熟练了就可以不用整天run
cash register了。
先修课学分还是联系你申请的学校吧，这个每个学校要求不同的。我们学校申请的时候
有个list，直接列出哪个学校的，哪们课是和我们学校的要求equal的。 |

了INTERN LICENSE之后TECH LICENSE就没有RENEW了，应该已经过期了，我倒不在乎PAY

trainer签字，还要回答一叠问题，看你是不是都会了）在药店确实没有正规training
，都是边干活，边自己学的。但是我自己觉得还是药店学的多，因为药店tech和
pharmacist工作比较紧密。不像医院，tech和药剂师工作关系不大，nurse来电话，
tech解决不了，我们就直接转给所在floor的pharmacist，所以也不知道人家药剂师都
是怎么处理问题的。
你也不要着急，该开始工作，先做一些简单的也很正常，等你熟练了，会让你fill
prescription的。还有平时你对同事什么的嘴巴甜一点，热心一点。人家还是会愿意教

对，药店tech和pharmacist工作比较紧密，TECH做好多事的。
我是有些急了，应为license拿了快一年了。其实才做了10来天，Tech的工作基本学会
要90天吗？
filling是第一天就让我做了，我每个早上3小时基本就干这个，差不多会有20几瓶药吧

的，我想想还是保护自己吧。而且当天的另一个Tech都先跟经理报告了这个事情。
我们店比较特殊吧，如果不是自己的pharmacist，大家都很紧张的。有一天来了一个新
pharmacist带班。他就一直在那边聊天，还打私人电话，check iphone。
然后第二天经理来问这个人如何。senior tech马上就说他一直聊天，打私人电话，
check iphone.他该做的那一步一直behind。经理还说是吗，我还以为你们会喜欢他，
因为平时经理和另一个女pharmacist都很push大家干活。我说，我们都习惯啦，哈哈。
不这样反而会不安。
基本上经理和另一个女pharmacist在我们都不怕，因为她们都很快，一个人相当于
pharmacist+tech。搞得我很紧张，因为我怕到了毕业的时候我还达不到她们的水平。

发帖数: 324 | 46 我做tech前也考了个PTCB，一点都没用上啊（反正我在医院和药店的工作人完全没有沾
PTCB的福）。retail只要缺人，就会很急着招人，只要你申请，基本就进。进了之后，
你一旦是tech了，申请intern也是容易得很。我所在
store是个slow store，但是总是找不到人周末上班的。我之前申请很多医院tech，都
没有回音，（我在resume上写了PCTB啊,incoming P1啊都没用。因为我一点工作经验都
没有。后来还是人家医院来我们学校招incoming P1 student，人家才最终理我。。。
。。所以还是去药店多问问缺不缺人。
PS，long term care也可以问问，据说long term care给18刀每小时，比医院还高 |

申请intern感觉超容易的。。。听我们manager这么说的）所以不知道你可不可以先做
一下tech，等把人混熟了，在申请intern。 |

发帖数: 624 | 50 我在准备第三次口语，加上考古看到说即使口语通过了，找intern也不是一个很容易的
事情，也许也要经历一些时间。我在想，这段时间如果做一段tech是不是会有点帮助呢
，请过来人帮忙看看。
我有这个想法是昨天去walgreen打针，帮我查保险的正好是manager，挺NICE的，我就
和她随便聊了一会儿，说以后要找INTERN. 她就问我又没有做过tech,我说没有。她说
tech需要的量大，而且能够容易的进入这行，所以我就在考虑这是否是个好的选择呢？ |
