我对tier 2，tier3的定义不是很明白，我
还以为top 10是tier1，top 50是tier2，剩下的是tier3
我绝对不是来bso的，真心请教大家。版上的牛牛们多了去了。。
我确实不是很明白做visiting AP是不是值得，不然我得赶紧去找postdoc了，也不知道
top school的所谓visiting AP跟排名50-70的学校的tenure哪个好。非常困惑。

只是一个客套的开头，因为说的是"one of the.... for campus visit'. 还是可以理
解为"you are THE top candidate"?
前阵子碰到过类似的情况，另一个B学校SC在电话用的wording是"you are one of the
top candidates we have". 结果onsite的时候系主任说我是第一个onsite的，而后面
几个人名单都还没确定。所以揣摩B学校可以解读得更乐观一些。

scan billion data 一次，在hashtable纪录每个query的次数
然后再scan billion data一次,通过heap和hashtable找到top 100
不过这样的话,billion data会被scan 2次，disk i/o会很大
不知道有没有什么scan billion data一次就可以找到top 100的办法

今年先自己种草, 需要买一些top soil. 查了查, 发现top soil 差价比较大. 也不知
道它们有什么区别. 比如下面第一个,说可以cover 1cu ft, 重量是30lb,价格$2.97,
第二个,重量40lb,价格$1.25. 它们有什么区别呢?我该买那种? 我自己想买的就是一般
好,价格便宜的就行.(买的比较多) 如果能给推荐一种,就更好了.

尤其是毛巾，洗完一次拿出来，毛毛掉了一大半，连花样都秃了。
而这条毛巾以前在top load里洗过几十次都没坏。
后来换了条毛巾在那个front load洗，又给一次就洗坏了。
所以，洗衣机是否会洗坏衣服，跟牌子和质量有关，跟front/top load不是
直接相关的。

以前上学的时候曾经住过的两个地方，有一个洗衣房都是top load的，后来另一个是
front load的。我印象特别深刻的是 top load的洗衣房干干净净的，没什么异味；而
front load的那个洗衣机都放在水泥沏的槽子里，槽子里面都是水，然后洗衣房一股臭
味。
公共的洗衣房，没人太上心维护，洗衣机本身的缺陷更容易暴露一些。自己家里面经常
清理维护应该会好很多。但是我还是坚定地支持top load的 |

的吸衣机。现在的top load也是滚筒式的，只是滚的方式和front load有差别。对衣服
的损伤程度，都比以前那种老式的吸衣机小多了。至于谁吸的更干净，我觉得和选择哪
种洗衣液的关系更大一些，滚的方式并不是起主要作用。
其实这些洗的干净，损伤衣服的差别都不是太大，要不然另一个早就被淘汰了。我用

肥（compost）卖。单价非常便宜。自己带容器，装好了称量给钱。以前弄院子草坪，
都是去超市买top soil，贵。介绍说堆肥是庭院垃圾，枯枝烂叶和木削, manures,
food scraps and other raw organic materials）自然降解处理后的产物。据说
compost的营养成分，比单纯top soil 更好。
1，那些降解物弄成的compost，可否替代top soil 来铺在草坪上，再撒草籽？
2，compost成分很肥，会不会烧草种子？！
3，compost会不会很松软？播种之后，下大雨什么的，会不会把compost以及埋在里面
的草籽，雨水冲走？
最后一个问题。我前院有700+ sf，如果是铺0.5-1 inch厚度的compost，大概需要多少
lb的堆肥？ 一吨（2000 lb），是不是太多了？ |

然后用roller直接把整个院子弄平整。不知道是铺compost，还是铺top soil。
我以前在Lowes，HD买的袋装Top soil，土质很一般，里面很多石块、木屑等杂质，而
且很多团块。也会带来很多weed的种子或者残留。我如果这次要买top soil，我就去找
公司拉一车送到家。
compost比较松软一些，营养成分很够。但是担心只铺compost的话，地面不够夯实，大
雨冲刷，地面以后还是会变形、坑洼。

发帖数: 2552 | 41 front load的好处不是用top load的能理解的，加了pedestal高度正好不用弯腰，拿放
不要太容易了，拿出来直接塞旁边的dryer，不用举高举低。倒是top load的拿衣服要
弯腰，洗衣间小或者正好是车库入口那只能用top load。FL基本上不能中间加衣服那是
真的，不过没碰上说非要中间加衣服洗的，现在洗衣机效率高，30来分钟就完事了。
LG还有sidekick pedestal washer，用来分开洗小件衣服很好，这个是TL没有的空间不
允许，搞活动的时候rebate下来等于普通的pedestal。
有把洗衣机节水节电不当一回事的，长远来看显然比较重要，我们这水电公司拿还给
200的rebate。
洗衣机烘干机想用得长，适当也需要维护，长霉的是自己没弄好，看说明书厂家都建议
要定期清理。我还见过很多人抱怨烘干机不给力，看了才知道连滤芯都不清理，这种不
会用不能怪厂家。说白了就是一普通家用电器，自己用好才是关键，抱怨别人用的没用 |

最后到了一两百名的学校做faculty，自己的同事都是蠢的不行的老白faculty还得忍气
吞声忍受各种歧视和politics，学生更是笨的和猪一样，然后国内收入上去了也骗不到
自己国家的学生来熬phd了，这是发考题版大多数的现状吧
有你们这种忍辱负重的本事在国内混的保证比你在这儿强，不过当然了宁愿给洋人当奴
才受气也不愿回去受一丝委屈。 |

高中里人才济济, 而且我们这top高中里的Asian比例相当高, 那组织的postion肯定数
量有限, 都是很厉害的娃在抢, 还不如二流高中得到这些机会多一点?
考虑买房中, 怀疑是不是一定得买在最好高中的区, 房子还贵好多. 我说的TOP大概州

those three it doesn't matter whether you are in "top 5" or "top 20" like
Yale.

收到信后发现，基本就是和正常的RFE一样。
除了几项和本版中很多RFE列出的一样，有一项原来没有见过：
"Submit evidence that you are one of the small percentage who has risen to
the very top of your field of endevor".
本人打算从两方面回复：
1. 让老板和独立推荐人再出几封信， 说明我是one of the small percentage in the
field；
2. 想出示有关文章引用的证据 "some of my papers are in the the small
percentage of most top cited papers in the same topic/journal?" 我有几篇近
年发表的文章都有30+ 的citation. 可能满足5% most top cited papers in the sam |
