请问这个gap contract是什么？ dealer和我说，如果是贷款买车，就必须付这$795，
然后等我贷款快付清时，借给我钱的finanical公司再退给我这$795，是这样吗？

Just an illustration.
If you loan a car say at 20k, and you total the car the first day. The
insurance evaluates the total loss of 15k, leaving you 5k short of the loan.
That is what the gap insurance is for.
But $800 is for sure too much for a normally priced car. If your loan
amount is 25% below MSRP, typically you will be safe and do not need it at
all. If you do want to get one, you can buy one from a third party or ask
dealer to match that offer. In majority of the cases, you do not need it
and it is a milking cow for dealer's profit.

发帖数: 1963 | 5 dealer忽悠你的，不是必须买的。
你如果有down的话，基本不用买gap；如果是0 down的话，确认一下gap是不是可以
refund，然后可以一年后cancel gap，按剩余贷款年数比例收回部分gap。

发帖数: 1963 | 8 GAP是refundable的，而且价格估计跟贷款年数有关，lz说不定贷的是四五年的款才这
么贵。
我的GAP条款写着：
you have the right to cancel at any time and to request a refund, if no
benefit has been provided under this agreement. ...We will refund the
purchase price pro-rata based on the elapsed time from the agreement
effective date to the cancellation date.
