Jeremy Lin became a symbol of hope for Americans, proving that your dreams
can turn into a reality through hard work, dedication, and a laser focus on
achieving your goals. In a time where our country is hurting economically, "
Linsanity" was more than just a series of basketball games; it was a source
of inspiration.
Unfortunately Stephen A. Smith took an opposite approach and antagonized
Jeremy Lin for selfish reasons in order to raise controversy and bring more
awareness to the SAS brand.
Instead of acting as a respected journalist, SAS used the platform given on
ESPN, ESPN.com, and ESPN radio to paint Jeremy Lin as a selfish snake and
hid under the guise of "according to my sources" to support his opinion that
Lin self-sabotaged any return to the New York Knicks.
SAS has misconstrued statements by Lin in order to antagonize him, SAS
helped fuel rumors and division amongst the Knicks locker room and fans, and
whenever counter-commentary was presented to SAS, he proceeded to act in
character and shouted down any argument supporting Jeremy Lin while showing
little to zero respect in the process.
This petition was created to let ESPN know that we are sick and tired of the
yellow journalism tactics utilized by Stephen A. Smith in order to support
the growth of his career.
ESPN, we demand you take action to reprimand the conduct and poor form
committed by Stephen A. Smith in order to create a fair and balanced
environment on all of your communication platforms. |
