China to ordain more bishops amid Vatican spat
China’’s state-controlled Catholic church plans to ordain at least seven
more bishops, a top church official said Friday, after a series of such
ordinations worsened already tense Vatican ties.
Liu Bainian, deputy head of the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association (CPCA
), said the new bishops would be ordained "on an auspicious day", without
giving further details.
The Vatican has been locked in a bitter struggle with Beijing over control
of the church in China. It says recent ordinations by the state-run church
were carried out without papal approval and are illegitimate.
The latest move came after the CPCA ordained Huang Bingzhang as bishop in
the city of Shantou in the southern province of Guangdong.
China’’s 5.7 million Catholics are increasingly caught between showing
allegiance to the CPCA, or to the Pope as part of an "underground" Church.
Illustrating this, three bishops loyal to the Pope went missing or were
detained recently in an apparent attempt to force them to take part in Huang
’’s state-sanctioned ordination, their diocese members told AFP.
At least three other bishops were ordained in China this year, the official
China Daily newspaper said.
The issue has angered the Vatican, which has not had formal diplomatic ties
with Beijing since 1951.
Earlier in July, Rome excommunicated an "illegitimate" Chinese bishop and in
May the Pope called on all bishops to "refuse to take the path of
separation" in spite of "pressure" from the communist authorities.
But China has ignored these appeals. Last month, it announced that it would
try to ordain at least 40 bishops "without delay".

Communism, I am surprised that China allows the Catholic Church in any shape

What’’s the big deal? If China wants to ordain it’’s own bishops, then
they’’re just starting their own church. They’’re not asking for vatican
recognition. It’’s simply their own church, based on christian
mythologies. If the pope doesn’’t want to recognize this, then perhaps the
pope is trying to tell us that the vatican has somehow gained control of,
or somehow monopolized "God". The pope may have "authority" regarding his
own brand of catholicism, but since that record includes condoning sexual
assaults upon children, and then covering it up so that these crimes can be
perpetrated (and perpetuated) again and again, I hardly think this outdated
con-game has any moral authority on anyone. If China’’s government keeps "
too close an eye" on the church, it might make the priests feel uneasy about
doing their "usual business", but I’’m certain all the choirboys would be
grateful for it.

All those in picture are atheists and multi-theists. If you ever read the
Bible in Chinese, you realize it is total nonsense - yes, the translation is
hugely misleading and confusing. They are told the new god (Jesus) is the
biggest and most powerful of all. Most are skeptic. They also visit Buddhist
temples before but their wishes did not get satisfied. So, they are trying
this foreign religion. They quickly find that their wishes would not get
satisfied by this god either. The large population of China means a
continuous come and go. All of them believe in evolution and abortion. All
of them are strongly against childhood indoctrination.

Historically, the catholics interferred with the polical lives of China, in
fact they despised the many Chinese governments. That was an main reason for
the boxer rebellion. The catholic church protected the criminals in their
sancturies as long as they became converted christians. The catholic church
became intelligence gatherers for the advancing European armies, when the 8
nations invaded China. I am sure not all of the foreign priests are like
that. But a lot are and there is no way to filter them.
